McShay 2.0

we need a CB though more then a WR

No we don't. We should get a CB in one of the 1st 2 rounds preferably, but other than Calvin we have 0 good WRs. At CB, Slay should improve and be pretty good, Houston could be good or bad and we have some young, big corners with some talent that our new defensive coaches might be able to coach up. A #2 WR is more of a need in my opinion, but we should address both positions in the draft.

somewhat agree. I think we only take a corner if its in rd 1. As you pointed out we already have our rd 2 corner on our roster that hopefully can improve in slay plus the options of mathis Houston greenwood Bentley and jonte. Adding another second class cb into the mix isn't going to accomplish much. Its gilbert in rd 1 or we don't draft corner at all imo. Gilbert isn't by any means a "shutdown" corner in the NFL...but hes worth the #10 pick.

WR id have no issues with taking at 10 but I think its a little high to take evans. Lee probably has more talent that evans but I don't think he fits the need were looking for which is a big body on the outside. Evans is a big body on the outside but is a hothead, that probably isn't very fast, dooesnt run the best routes and had vastly inflated numbers due to manziels uncanny ability to make something out of nothing...that's too risky at 10 imo.

If you can still get a guy like seferian-Jenkins or amaro in early rd 2 I think you go that route to add a weapon to staff and wait til rd 4 or 5 (moncrief/coleman) or even FA (DHB) to get your tall fast outside downfield threat.

if your sticking a gun to my head and telling me to pick a weapon for staff at 10 not names Watkins....I think id go ebron eventhough I would normally think 10 is too high to take a TE.

The Evans pick is growing on me. Love his size but most of all his low drop rate. Love Watkins but half his catches come behind the line of scrimmage. We need another big body deep threat.

Big....BIG difference in catching passes from Manziels' high school arm and Staffords fastball.

I basically agree. My dream is that Watkins somehow falls to us, but if he doesn't and both tackles are gone (Matthews and Robinson), I'd be pretty content taking Gilbert or maybe Dennard, depending on how workouts and everything else go. I also don't want to take Evans at #10 because I think it's too high to take a guy with that many question marks. I don't know right now about Marqise Lee.

Last year in February I called our first round pick. I'll try and call it again. We trade up to get Watkins. Possibly to 5 with the Raiders. If so say goodbye to our second round pick. We flip third round spots with the Raiders too.

So in my mock youd be trading Gilbert and Seferian Jenkins for Watkins. Id do it. Secondary will still suck....but who cares lol!

Problem being JAX or STL could easily take him.

True, he could go before 5. I like your Mock, I actually wish I would have come up with it first. Really like the Dixon pick in the third. I think we take Jaylen Watkins (Sammy's older half bro) in the fourth, him and Dixon could boost the secondary. I would like to hear what people think about giving up our second for Watkins though. Mayhew made the same gambit with Pat Peterson but couldn't get it done. It was the right call in hind sight. I think he's desperate and we get a number two for good at all costs.

I watched a bunch of Gilbert tapes today and I can see where McShay has him falling to the late first. But the way big DBS are valued he won't fall that far. Stiff hips and plays off is what I don't like, natural zip out of breaks is what I do like. Doesn't like to tackle either. With good coaching he can be a great player, year one good coverage down field, year two picks out of breaks start to happen. Needs good coaching though which I assume we have with Austin.

If we did this I wouldn't be too unhappy. It's an awful lot to give up a 2nd round pick when we have holes at several positions, but Watkins might be worth it. Just my opinion though based on what a WR like Watkins would mean for this offense. He'd consistently get 1v1 coverage, which I think he could usually beat and he'd give us the deep-play threat opposite Calvin. Combine him with Calvin and Reggie/Joique and we'd be in great shape on offense. All we'd need to do is get an average WR in free agency who is sure-handed.

The only real problem I have with Watkins is he all but disappeared last year when Hopkins stepped up.

Or did Hopkins benefit from the coverage being on Watkins? Lol that's def a long shot but who knows. Seems like everyone and their brothers are on the Watkins train after the bowl game and rightfully so.
