Meyer to Stay, Geno to Go ...

Co-worker of mine with very genuine ties to OSU and a brother who worked in the Athletic Dept just told me Meyer will stay, be subject to some form of 'slap on the wrist' and that Gene Smith will be scapegoated.

He has always been pretty accurate on buckeye news/rumor, but who knows? He also seems pretty certain that the media blew everything out of proportion ...jumped to conclusions, whatever.

But I said it, brilliant move by Meyer to throw Smith under the bus and follow Bruce Nadej' advice of preventing a crisis from becoming a story all weekend. He got in front of it pretty quickly.

Yeah. I saw a similar story published yesterday. That an "insider" had spoken to several connected people at OSU and that Meyer is going to keep his job and be on the sidelines come sept 1st. That the whole thing had been blown way out of proportion and that there is so much that has not been said about the story. He claimed we'd all be "shocked" by the findings of the investigation. I don't know about you, but I'm not shocked that Meyer will keep his job. I don't find that shocking at all.

OSU fan at work just keeps saying over and over, "well, the woman has issues." referring to Courtney Smith, as if that explains everything. She didn't go to the cops and she has issues. Oh yeah, and that Zach Smith was Urban Meyer's friend, so it would've been hard for Urban to fire him.

Also, as of yesterday at some time, Courtney Smith came out and said she has yet to be contacted by any investigation that is supposedly ongoing at OSU...

Classic victim blaming.

let's send a couple to the OSU coaching staff, c/o the boys at Detroit Sports Forum:

and if it blows up, and they say "OMG Michigan fans are so tasteless" we'll say "No, that came from the MSU Spartans section of the Detroit Sports Forum."

I think his question was more along the lines of how do the cops in football towns communicate player/staff criminal behavior or arrests back to the head coach.

Presumably they (coach, university reps, cops) have a meeting somewhere to agree on who gets notified and when.

as far as zach smith's lack of arrests - I'm guessing Courtney Smith never called cops when there was physical evidence to protect her husband's job, which explains why he wasn't ever arrested after 2009, despite her claims of abuse & the pics she sent Urban's wife.

I can't comment on that then. The college in our jurisdiction, albeit a MAC school has a shittier than usual football team. I don't like dealing with any of them and I assure you they get no special treatment from the PD. However, Ive heard stories of the players/coaches getting away with stuff from inside the athletic offices. So if it happens in a MAC program, imagine what happens at a nationally recognized program.

You mean they're getting away with stuff, but not with help from the local PD, I take it.

Also, WOW, I know there's no news, but espn.com has really burried this story. they also show way more deference to OSU and the local PD by not questioning their refusal to turn over their records related to the reports filed by Courtney Smith.

deadspin interviewed ohio attorneys and law professors who said the only rationale for withholding records from the media NOW, 3 years after the investigations concluded without charges against anyone being filed would be if they needed to protect the identity of the accused.

but since everyone KNOWS the accused is Zach Smith, that is a moot point.

the Powell PD is covering for Smith and OSU, and maybe their own asses, since it sounds like they may have seen evidence of physical abuse on some occasions, but never followed through on arresting him, as would be required under ohio law

Should be red or "scarlet." That way it doesn't show when you get blood on it.
