I feel more confident about both Indiana and OSU this year than I did last year. This year's team is getting better each week whereas last year's team started to play worse each of the last 3-4 weeks. I agree with Champ in that, as of right now, Michigan looks like the 2nd best team in the league. The first half of the year they looked like the 5th or 6th best team at best.
I think that loss to OSU last year might have been the best thing that could happen to them. Don Brown has made the adjustment to mixing in zone coverage instead of stubbornly playing man 99% of the time, Harbaugh hired someone who is familiar with modern offenses even though he wants to run a manball offense and now that they're all on the same page they're peaking at the right time. The thing that stood out to me more than anything else Jim said was that Gattis and the offensive staff not only knew how to attack MSU. but they even game planned for the adjustments that MSU would make in response to what Michigan was trying to do and they were right on almost all of them. That's impressive and encouraging, because we've been saying for years that MSU and OSU seem to be 1 step ahead of us every year.
Another encouraging thing to come out is Gattis saying that they have started to spend time each week preparing for OSU. That's something that Meyer and Tressell always did and our coaches stubbornly refused to do.
And I get that there are 1000 variables to consider, but OSU just gave up 21 points to Rutgers. They're not impossible to beat. The margin for error is razor-thin playing them but the way Michigan has played on both sides of the ball for the last 3 games, the game is in A2 and the fact that the coaches have been putting extra emphasis on this game make me think that this is the year that it can all come together. I'm not predicting a win just yet, but everyone seems to already assume that the game is a lost cause and I don't see it that way.
