And not afford his contract so bid means nothing. You can't just win the bid and trade him you have to sign him..do you think most teams are able to afford 100+ or whatever he gets? I don't.
what I meant is the bid is more affordable since it is capped. After the bid at least it is a free market for all that made the winning bid. Pretty much like the player being a free agent able to sign with any of the teams. Look at the Rangers with Darvish. Once they won the bid they didn't have to compete with any other teams. The old way the rich teams could out bid for the right to sign the player then get the player at a discount because of no competition.
