MSU basektball recruiting

Interesting that we are suddenly going hard after a point guard. We've been making a push after Mark Smith and Blake Harris the last couple days. Wonder what the sudden panic at PG is?

My guess is that we either got bad news from Bowen or McCoy or that Bridges has let Izzo know he's leaving and we now have an opening.

Maybe Tum Tum is transferring?!?!

ITT Tech?

What's the word on all the top guys? Bowen and McCoy. A buddy told me that McCoy is only coming if Bridges stays and if Bridges stays then Bowen is probably going elsewhere. Any truth to that?

That's exactly what the insiders are saying.

Even today, Bridges is recruiting McCoy to come play with him. Bowen has been told that Bridges has already made up his mind to return so we aren't in play for Bowen any more.

We have the edge for McCoy right now and Bridges is about 80% returning.

Also, Jaren Jackson has been a standout this week in practice and scrimmages. Hitting 3s, showing good handles driving to the basket and finishing, and blocking shots. McCoy has looked raw, but Uber athletic. Jackson is probably the better player of the two right now and look for his ranking to climb post mCD's AA week. Both measured at 6-11 this week and Jackson has a freaky long wingspan.

You should probably add that the "insiders" are the hacks at 247 on the RCMB.

Sean has always had great info. Regular posters? Not so much.

Also, the recent offers to 2 guards are because Elliot is dragging his feet, he might want to go to Marquette where he has a chance to start right away.

I don't like the Elliott offer anyway. If you're gonna bring in a "shooter", I'd prefer him to have some length.

I think we'd like another ball handler on the team more than anything. Ellis and Harris helped out with that this year.

Back to Jackson, this kid probably has a higher ceiling than any kid in the class and several scouts have said as much. He's extremely young, he won't turn 18 until the Fall this year. He's 6-11" with a 7-4" wingspan, he can shoot, he can handle the ball, and he's an outstanding shot blocker. He's also got those NBA bloodlines. His family and his age will likely make him a 2 year player no matter how well he plays next season. McCoy is stronger than and a better rebounder than Jackson and the thought is he really wants to be a one and done. But Jackson is probably a better player right now with a higher upside.

If we don't get McCoy, be happy with Jackson, he's a longer and more talented version of Adriean Payne who is ready to be a big factor from day 1. Jackson is probably better right now than McCoy and we'll likely have him for 2 years rather than 1.

Another thing about Jackson is his dad is Jaren Jackson senior, played 12 year s in the NBA and made over $8 million and has a bachelors in Finance from Georgetown. Jackson's family is financially stable, he won't be tempted to jump to the NBA early to help his family money wise.

I've thought Arizona all along. Just reading through the stuff he's said it always seems like Arizona is his favorite to me.

I think it will be Zona, although Gary Trent Jr. seemed sure that Bowen is picking MSU and made a comment to reporters yesterday about it.

4 star combo guard Mark Smith is skipping an All Star game this weekend to take an official visit to MSU Saturday and Sunday. 6-5, 225 lbs and played PG in high school.

It's between Kentucky and us for him. Thoughts are he might commit this weekend, if he doesn't he'll probably sign with Kentucky. Izoo wants another ball handler on the roster.

5star center, Brandon McCoy is announcing Wednesday. Between us and Oregon. Our writer thinks it's us, their writer thinks it's them.

50-50.

Smith probably committed this weekend. Should hear tonight. Mr. Basketball in Illinois and one of the most underrated recruits in a long long time. Was under the radar because he didn't fully commit to B Ball until this past season. Easily could be the steal of the whole class. Kid was easily the best player in his state.

Really reminds me of Gary Harris. If he has been in AAU last season would easily be a top 40 player.

I'll believe when I hear it, especially since Kentucky was the other school after him.

Kentucky just took another wing today, their class is full.

Ohio State is the only threat and he may or may not visit them this weekend.

Smith had a full ride to Missouri to play baseball, but he decided he liked basketball better this year and the result was he was Mr. Basketball in Illinois.

At #6 in Chad Forde's 2018 Mock

Ford writes that Jackson’s work for the U.S. team at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon, last week raised the MSU commit’s stock. Ford called Jackson “the surprise of the Hoop Summit camp.”

“He’s a classic modern 4, with length, athleticism, an outstanding 3-point shot and the ability to rebound and protect the rim,” Ford writes. “While he needs to add strength and a post game, his tools were evident. Scouts took notice and believe his combination of size and skill will make him the next-most obvious candidate to be a one-and-done player in college.

“He had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Team USA and dominated the paint. If he can show enough of that talent at Michigan State, he’ll look like a top-10 draft pick.”

We're caught up in other recruits, but we already have one of the best players in the country signed. Jackson is a stud and he's probably a top 10 player or maybe even top 5.

I think it's obvious that McCoy is Oregon bound. Waited until a scholarship opened to announce his decision. Bowen is Arizona bound.

Most experts are predicting Oregon, however Sean Scherer is still firm hat his sources are still saying MSU. Sean has also interviewed McCoy multiple times.

Also. Rivals final B Ball 150 is out.
Jaren Jackson #6
McCoy #11
Bowen #20
Smith #52
Tillman #82

We've already landed the biggest fish in our class. Jackson is a stud and appropriately higher ranked than Miles Bridges was after High School.
