MSU vs Arizona State

The big ten is out dated and stale. Michigan and Michigan State complain about the same stuff. The play calling on offense is vanilla as it gets. Look at Alabama and Ohio State. They’ve adapted with the times. On defense, you refuse to get out of the base 4-3 defense even when it’s clear to everyone in the stadium that ASU has abandoned the run and are going to throw the ball. I don’t get it.

Edit: the same shit happens with Izzo. Stop being so god damn hard headed and change things up.

and how about a bit more balance, 15 carries by 3 different backs? It's time to go with Heyward or Scott, preferably Heyward and give him 20+ carries a game.

for those of us shitting on Lewerke, he was 27/39 (69%) for 314 yards and a TD - the int wasn't a great pass but it was tipped. He put up those numbers under pressure all night long. It's not his fault Higby got bowled over right into him on what was probably the dumbest play call of the night, including the jet sweep - then it happened again on another 3rd down. Or that Reid missed back-to-back blocks allowing an unimpeded rush to smack him in the face just as he turns around.

What a laughable loss. This team looks pathetic especially our awful playcalling and sieve of a secondary. Lewerke put up some empty numbers as well. Really questioning this teams ceiling now.

Yeah, maybe I was a bit strong with my blame on him. But that pick in the end zone was a HUGE swing. You just can?t force a ball off your back foot on 2nd down from the 6.

that's true it definitely was an ill-advised throw, but the tight end got both his hands on it and it deflected right into the defender's hands.

Higby and Reid are the biggest goats by far to me, followed by the defense - 3rd and long defense was particularly putrid and we next almost zero pass rush all night.

If we can get Chewins back I think it?ll help that line. It?ll kick players back to spots where they aren?t as bad.

his numbers are only empty because of the red zone mistakes - it's not like he got a bunch of garbage time yards, I thought he actually did a good job of extending a lot of plays where the line collapsed early and sent him scrambling.

Ohio State is going to dominate the big ten for years to come. Seeing them play and then watching Michigan, MSU, and Wisconsin, it?s not even close. They have athletes that MSU and Wisconsin can only dream about. Michigan has players to matchup but it seems like they can never really put it together. They seem to be stuck in mediocrity and can?t break out. I?m not in any way saying Dantonio has to go, but can we please bring someone in that?s at least a little creative on offense? Running down the middle for 2 yards on first down is getting really old.
The defense matches up soooo poorly against any team that can slightly pass the ball. When you look at the way the defense and offense are ran, it is honestly a miracle this team has had the success that they have had in recent years.

Yeah, this year it looks like OSU in a landslide all of a sudden. Though we don't know yet about PSU. Very shaky Week 1, better the past 2 weeks, but haven't really played anyone yet.

The one weakness OSU has is, because they're so aggressive and line up man to man on virtually every play, they are prone to giving up big plays - sort of like we were under Narduzzi. Obviously, they'll be heavy favorites against most if not all B1G competition, but they're not unbeatable. We should be 2 TD+ dogs against them so beating them this year would be a small miracle.

And while OSU has a massive talent advantage, I think the biggest differential is on the o and d lines. Their skill guys are better as well but I really think it's closer than the difference in the trenches. Unless Dantonio is going to radically change his offense, he's going to need to land elite lineman and develop under the radar guys every year. Even at his peak, his o-lines were mediocre at best.
