MSU will finish the season #2

Doesn't really matter. No one ever remembers the final poll other than who finished #1.

it matters to me, i'm happy with our accomplishment and ranking. i'm not going to get into an argument over who should be #2 or #3, we went 13-1, won the big ten title, won the rose bowl. if we would have had preseason hype we might have played last night or at least been in the conversation more.

The only way MSU was going to finish #2 was if Auburn boat-raced FSU (or the other way around). One of the first things I thought as the game was ending was that State will finish #3 nationally because NOBODY would DARE put a Big Ten team ahead of a 2-loss SEC team.

That said, I'd like to see State play FSU (or Auburn) and see for sure ....

7-6 teams don't get pre-season hype.

I don't disagree that preseason hype matters (or in Auburn's case the opportunity to beat the teams with the preseason hype in order to generate your own hype). Thankfully in a 4 team playoff it will matter a little bit less. All the accomplishments you mention matter a great deal to me as well.

What doesn't matter to me (but seems to matter to some) is whether we are able to jump the #2 team in the country in a final poll that very few people will remember because they happen to lose by 3 points to the #1 team.

I think more importantly regardless of the final ranking though this season and the Rose Bowl has stamped MSU as a legitimate program, one that starts to get those Top Ten preseason rankings and the benefit of the doubt.
