That doesn't change the fact they were rated decently by, what most consider, the primary recruiting website. Our new recruit is universally a 2 star with almost no recruiting prestige at all.

80th in the country at his position...oh, the decency.

So if Johnson ends up getting a 3rd star on rivals after rushing for 3K+ yards then, and only then, he'll have a chance at being productive?

Well there are 120 Div1a teams....so I would consider that pretty decent.

Heck he may get a 3rd star on rivals - it might make me feel a little better. But his universal two star status + the fact he only has 1 other offer from EMU does not make me, currently, feel good about using a scholarship on him. Sure, he could get 10 more offers and a 3rd star by the time this is all over, I'm speaking with the information we have at the moment.

I was pretty right about the defense. I thought we would end up somewhere in the top 30-50 range and last time I checked, it may be different since the Iowa game, we were actually a little above that. And IMO three star players are different than 2 star players in 1 way - generally 2 star players aren't fit to be in div1a athletics. Most kids who can't even get a three star rating - don't succeed in div1a - or are walk on somewhere that doesn't see the field. Obviously our coaching staff saw something to offer this kid one of 5 remaining scholarships.

Maybe the scouting services whiffed on this kid. ANyway, if he was one the states best running backs playing at a big high school he st have something to offer. Also, watch his star rating go up now that UM offered him.

That is possible, it happened with the FB we recruited - but FB's are usually low rated anyway.

He sounds fast he may develop into a 3rd down back that can catch the ball out of the backfield and cause match up nightmares. I do think sometimes to much is made out of rankings and stars. I trust Hoke and if he says this kid is worth it so be it.

I like your optimism but I'm not sure where it comes from. I mean, at some point you have to say - they're the coaches and we aren't - but the other side of that is these recruiting sites are specifically out there to evaluate these kids as well. It's pretty rare for unranked/two star kids to actually succeed at a major school.

I doubt he gets any other offers. Other teams will know they aren't going to pry him from Michigan.

I would even be OK if he never made a play at RB but was able to make some tackles on ST. Yes I am being very optimistic but oh well. It also could be his current coach doesnt use him right or he is in the wrong system. Or maybe he will suck and this is the last time he will ever be mentioned on this forum.

Who's going to throw the ball deep down field to him?

Is this a good thing? Why a 2 star back. The review on Mgoblog leaves me confused as to why the coaches would pursue him. He only has 1 other offer to EMU. I know he will probably set the MHSFB rushing recored, but where is the enthusiasm.

It's rare, but some 2 star athletes turn into good payers. We ( MSU ) have a couple low star players that are big contributors. I believe Pickelman, Trenton Robinson and Darqueze Dennard were all 2 stars and they are all starters. Heck T-Rob was pre season B10. A lot of times it's about development. RR didn't develop players, something tells me Hoke will, due to his past coaching experience.

BTW, you shoot a deer yet ? All I have been seeing is a bunch of 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 year olds. No shooters yet. I only have one week before all hell breaks lose up here in Michigan.

Yeah I took a small 7 point the first week of the season. Nothing special just your average run of the mill deer. It is my first year with a bow, so I was happy. I am trying to fill my antler less tag now. I had a button buck at 6 yards the other day and let him walk. Saturday I seen 6 different bucks and had a Big 7 at 8 yards, but my antlered tag is full. It was still fun to see him and I even called him in.

We have a lot of deer around us, so QDM is not in the cards. I like the meat, and have eaten tag soup the last few years. In Michigan you get two bucks, right? So if thats true that would be nice. Fill the Freezer with one and get a big one to put on the wall.(however tacky, I like the euro mounts)

Who....The deer didn't feel a thing. If you hit in a civic, It would just be a wounded deer. At least I took him down quickly and humanly.

No, I actually feel bad for the little guys. They're just walking around having a nice day and then BLAM an arrow or a bullet hits them. Even more so when they put the food down for them. They're thinking, "wow this is my lucky day - look at all this food on the ground".

So if I shot you in the chest with an arrow it would be OK because I could justify it by saying that at least you didn't get hit by my civic?

Well if your trying to kill me to eat me, then yes. Using an arrow would be the better choice. I would bleed out rather quickly and feel minimal pain. If you run my over with your civic, you would total your car, hurt yourself and I would walk away with a limp, laughing.

But what are you, a cannibal?
