So if I shot you in the chest with an arrow it would be OK because I could justify it by saying that at least you didn't get hit by my civic?

Well if your trying to kill me to eat me, then yes. Using an arrow would be the better choice. I would bleed out rather quickly and feel minimal pain. If you run my over with your civic, you would total your car, hurt yourself and I would walk away with a limp, laughing.

But what are you, a cannibal?

Personally I'd rather get hit by a car at very high speed. It would likely knock me out and I would never feel a thing. It's extremely unlikely that you're shooting many deer in the head so the bleed out period would be pretty terrible.

A head shot is not ethical at all. Very small margin for error. The final stage of the hunt, normally is the kill. Most people will admit that it is a bitter sweet moment. I don't enjoy the kill, but it goes along with the game. Same as field dressing a deer. Not pretty, not what I enjoy, but it has to be done.

So am I safe to cross the street. Your not going to hit me with your car. I don't think I would be that good eaten'. I a big guy and don't lead a vegetarian life style, probably be tough!

It's just an animal.

Just proves my point that a 2 star recruit is nothing to get hyped up on! We have geared this thread to a hunting thread.

I would so love to take you hunting. Your opinions would change. I have started my wife out and she is hooked!

It's rare, but some 2 star athletes turn into good payers. We ( MSU ) have a couple low star players that are big contributors. I believe Pickelman, Trenton Robinson and Darqueze Dennard were all 2 stars and they are all starters. Heck T-Rob was pre season B10. A lot of times it's about development. RR didn't develop players, something tells me Hoke will, due to his past coaching experience.

BTW, you shoot a deer yet ? All I have been seeing is a bunch of 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 year olds. No shooters yet. I only have one week before all hell breaks lose up here in Michigan.

Yeah I took a small 7 point the first week of the season. Nothing special just your average run of the mill deer. It is my first year with a bow, so I was happy. I am trying to fill my antler less tag now. I had a button buck at 6 yards the other day and let him walk. Saturday I seen 6 different bucks and had a Big 7 at 8 yards, but my antlered tag is full. It was still fun to see him and I even called him in.

We have a lot of deer around us, so QDM is not in the cards. I like the meat, and have eaten tag soup the last few years. In Michigan you get two bucks, right? So if thats true that would be nice. Fill the Freezer with one and get a big one to put on the wall.(however tacky, I like the euro mounts)

Congrats. We started QDM three years ago and it has paid off. We started a 125 inch rule on the property last year, but in the years prior we still made sure to shoot at least a 2 1/2 or older. We take about mature doe's a year nd keep a good buck to doe ratio. I have a couple 140 + that I'm watching and only have a week until Gun season starts, so I got to get one of em. My buddy shot a 4 1/2 two nights ago, probably 125 to 130, weighed 187. The QDM is paying off.

I have family in OHIO and my brother shot a MONSTER about a week ago with his crossbow. I only saw a pic but it green scored over 170. It was his second buck. He hunts around Norwalk where do you hunt around down there?

Congrats again on the buck. Someday if you get cooperation with the boardering properties, try the QDM. I promise it will work.

I hope youre kidding.

No, I actually feel bad for the little guys. They're just walking around having a nice day and then BLAM an arrow or a bullet hits them. Even more so when they put the food down for them. They're thinking, "wow this is my lucky day - look at all this food on the ground".

I knew this would happen. LOL.

Who....The deer didn't feel a thing. If you hit in a civic, It would just be a wounded deer. At least I took him down quickly and humanly.

Well, go take a drive down 94 around 6:30 with your Civic. Lets see how well it holds up hitting a 275 pound live weight animal going 70 mph.

Drake Johnson 2star RB from AA Pioneer...Does this put us out of the running for Dunn?

I think all the gay ass OSU garb he was wearing on his visit to columbus was a pretty good sign.

Well TomVH seems to think his decision not to enroll early as he always said he would do at Ohio* is a bigger indicator ...that and his reaction following the loss to Sparty.

Weren't you just saying how ann arbor needed a good bbq place?

Yup. I love meat but if it was kill the animal or eat vegetables - I would eat vegetables. I'd do it simply to survive if I have to - but in this day and age only a small percentage of the population actually has to kill something. I just never got why someone would sit in the woods to shoot something that they didn't absolutely have to shoot - and enjoy it while doing it. I don't enjoy killing things - especially cute things. For instance, killing a chicken would be a lot easier than killing a cow.

In more ways than one....

As for hunters, I always recall my mother's accounts from the ER at Munson Medical Center where she worked for years. She said at the onset of hunting season they would see an increase in people coming to the HR with hunting related injuries.

Number one she said was injuries sustained from accidents involving alcohol, ranging from falling out of a tree blind to accidental shootings.

I'd obviously defer to him, that picture just made me puke...

M&B09: Are you aware of the role hunters play in population control? Deer are able to feed on farmer's crops / private gardens and so inhabit a wide range without much in the way of predators aside from vehicle accidents. It's actually more humane to "thin the herd" than to have the population bloom out of control and overwhelm the food supply, leading to sickly, underfed animals that are susceptible to disease like TB. It's clear you don't know much on the topic if you think trying for a headshot is a good idea.

I never said a headshot was a good idea. I just simply was making the point that unless you were shooting them in the head - getting hit by the car at 70mph usually kills them faster.

Secondly, my proposal is to release wolves and bear back into the population to let nature take it's course. The only reason there's a deer problem is because hunters already wiped out two populations of other species.

I am looking forward to the firearm season. I got property next to county park property I just wait for them to cross a fence and their dead meat. I enjoy spending fall, and winter nights in my blind watching the birds and squirrels and other wildlife do theinr thing in front of me. I love watching the fawns just prance in front of me and play while their supposed to be eating. While their mom takes 45 minutes to walk 20 feet to get in my shooting lane.

I love the deer meat. Cannot get enough, I usually take 2 deer a seaon usually a nice buck and later in the season a nice doe.

But Do you other hunters also Eat the deer heart? It is my favorite part of the deer. I Eat it after im done field dressing it, and hanging the deer in the garage for a few days before butchering it and packaging it myself.

There are plenty of wolves and bear in the UP, and they still have a lot of deer. Predators won't thin the herd alone.

I remember years ago in a subdivision I once lived, the deer herd was large and getting bigger every year, due to the fact you couldn't hunt the area. All the home owners thought it was neat that the deer were there and it was fun to feed and watch them. I told many of my neighbors the thousands of dollars they were putting into landscaping was a waste, the deer will destroy it. They didn't believe me, they sprayed their vegitation with Garlic spray, which desn't always work, especially when it washes off. I knew what was coming.

With in 6 years these same home owners went to the city and DNR to get permission to bring in SNIPERS at night to thin the herd of Deer in the surrounding area. Some of the complaints were gardens and landscaping being destroyed, auto accidents, some domestic animals were attacked, and a buck actually crashed through a window at one house causing thousands of dollars in damage. They actualy got permisson and spent the money to take care ofl it. LOL, i'm glad i moved away years ago.
