I havent read one positive thing on this rule change. And i know it goes both ways.
And when i say "majority", i may be thinking out loud. You find me one RB who's in favor of this rule though. Im sure there is but im willing to bet the mortgage that majority of NFL football players think this rule is a joke. And it is a joke....a huge joke.
This is being overblown. According to the NFL, the rule is structured in a way that would only make this a penalty in the most severe of cases.
If a running back could take an angle away from the play to gain yardage and instead uses the crown of the helmet beyond three yards from the line of scrimmage, it's a penalty.
If the runner can't angle away, and needs to bowl someone over for those extra yards, they aren't even flagging the same hit.
It's a very subjective call, which worries me. But so long as it is called the way they intend it to be, it's not such a bad rule. The question, of course, becomes how many games in a row Mikel gets hit with this, while the other team gets away with it.
Anything subjective gets called 100% of the time even if it was only intended to be called in specific cases, see any tackle on the qb or hit on any wr.
QB isn't really subjective. Its a "late hit", not whether someone is outside the box, head lowered, intention.
Who usually speak out? The ones who are against something, not the ones for it.
No, not really.
My whole issue is i hate to see a part of the game being taken out. 'Putting your hat" on someone is part of the game. Doesnt mean you're intending to hurt someone, just means you're playing the game hard and the only way you know how. Its going to be hard for some of these guys to adjust when they've been taught since they were little boys to use your bucket as an advantage. Gonna be some stupid ass calls just to make a point....fn stupid.

The whole game is based on intending to hurt someone. At least on D.
The intent might not be there but does cause injury and possible head trauma, for both parties. They haven't been taught that way, most haven't. The shoulder and forearm..
All I know is, the new rule will create less injuries - and that's a good thing. It won't take the entertainment out of the game..Still lots of big hits. A guy like Richardson will one day appreciate this..
Who leads with their shoulders or forearms? lol Bullshit. One, landing a forearm blow is illegal now and downright fn stupid to begin with. And i can see dipping your shoulder upon contact, but you're taught to lead with your head on offense and defense. Its part of the game....put your helmet on the ball.....stick your helmet in his chest and bring the arms up and wrap (defense)......lead with your bucket and push punch (offense)....its all part of the game.
We're going to see fefs throwing flqgs just to prove a point. This has disaster written all over it. Say im overreacting all you want.
If you lead with the head over the shoulder than the person is a dumb shit. You must be watching a different game.
"Nobody I ever broke bread with, and I see players all the time, talked about using their head running the football. I've seen Barry Sanders and Eric Dickerson and Marcus Allen and Franco Harris and we've all been together -- we were all together at the Super Bowl -- and not one talked about using their head.'' -- Brown.
Maybe it's the new guys that are just dumb.
We're obviously not going to agree on this but the old time players, when I grew up in the 70's RB were taught to lead with the shoulder - fact.
All RBs who had a different running style.
Sanders - make you miss type of runner
Dickerson - upright runner who relied on his speed.
Allen - like Dickerson, more of a dancer though
Harris- smart runner, rarely took a big hit like Barry
Brown - a man amongst boys, just relied on his size and speed to make guys silly.
Not one of these guys were bruisers. Easy for Brown to run his mouth...lol
