The rumor mill has been hot regarding Nick Saban going to the NFL in the next year or two. They were discussing it on ESPN radio and the thought is there aren't many good jobs opening this off season. I think the Lions would be an interesting option for him since they have a franchise type QB. Any thoughts? Would you guys prefer Saban over Swartz?

Given his past NFL history. No.

Absolutely f'en not, Saban doesn't translate to the NFL at all, did you see some of those things the Dolphins players had to say about him when he was in Miami, for the love of god Please don't even think about it!

If it meant we got a new GM as well then yes.

While I see your point, isn't going to happen. Problem is, Mayhew is getting all kinds of points for drafting guys any of us would have drafted: Megatron, Suh, Stafford, Leshoure, Delmas, Reiff, Pettigrew, Fairley. How about we look at some of the others: Titus Young, not drafting a quality center & sticking with Raiola, J Best...it's a mixed bag, for sure. I'd say he mostly took good advantage of lousy seasons & high picks more than drafting real smart. I mean, how many dui's/drug possessions and so forth along with head cases before you say he may not have considered high quality people & stuck more with simply high quality players. Seems like there's plenty of picks who could have provided both.

Saban is exactly the kind of guy this undiciplined bunch of jerk offs needs. If miami guys are crying cause they had to work hard ...boo effin hoo...

I kind of agree. His personality reminds me of a cross between Harbaugh and Belichik. We all know he can coach. I don't think Swartz is a good coach and it seems that some of the top level college coaches are having some early success vs. the past when they all flamed out. I Think I would rather have a very successful college coach come in vs. an NFL re-tread or an unproven assistant coach.

We need a new coach, GM, and owner.

In no particular order...

Oh there was more to it than just crying over hard work Hughes, apparently you havn't heard all of the accounts then. look it up.. IMO beyond that its all about money with him anyway, the only thing I'll mostly ever remember about him is how he ditched MSU in the middle of the night. He has no commitment to anything other than money. JMO.. The guy has a long history of just abruptly leaving teams.. hell no.. pass

right...i agree. But i was looking at it moreso that if it meant mayheww and schwartz abruptly left....id be for it. Not that i thought Saban was a great fit or anything. He is a good diciplinarian....i have to give him that credit. If i had to hand pick a college coach to come in id be more apt to give chip kelly a shot. Sure his offense doesnt really fit with stafford....but the guy is a good coach. Someone put in "no particular order" on one of their posts. I think whatever the order is it has to start with Mayhew. Following right behind him would be a new Dcord. Im hesitant to get a new Ocord only cause of Stafford....i dont like linehan but i also dont like changing coordinators on a young QB. Schwartz would be below all of them but if the only way to get new coordinators was to get rid of schwartz then id be for it. Similarly, if we got a new GM but the new GM wanted a fresh slate and had to get rid of Schwartz....then id be for that as well. My best scenerio would be new gm, keep schwartz, new d coordinator, keep linehan 1 more year and see how it goes.

Wasn't gun kinda a last minute hire, didn't Schwartz want to talk to someone with Tenn when he was hired but they said no? I'm on the fence with Schwartz but wouldnt mind a younger d cordinator that will be with the team for a long long time (if we so choose).

Agree, the lack of pass rush and the seldom blitz packages has not worked and has been a huge disappointment, wasn't AZ last in the NFL is allowed sacks? How many did we have against that? one? LOL.. what a joke.

I would not mind seeing a new Dcord at all. That damn live or die with the 4 man rush isn't working.

rush 3 on 4th and long with the game on the line. please retire Gunther. TIA

why the hell would you leave Alabama to coach the Detroit Lions....career suicide

Saban is JESUS CHRIST IN THE FLESH in this state. If he left, I'd be scared for his well being.........

I know it may not be the popular theory, but I think Saban is finishing his career at Alabama, he's looked around, tried several colleges and the pros, now he knows where he fits best. He'll be at Bama for at least 5 more years, win 2-3 more NCs and then retire as the greatest coach in the modern era.

The only thing I could see is if he retires from Bama and then gets bored after a year or 2 and then wants to coach again.

There is nothing in his history that says he'll stay with his current team.
