Looking good now after a slow start. NE is a decent team, made the tourney last year and almost beat notre dame. The won at #15 Miami this year but also lost to wmu

Big concern I see with this team is the rotation, we're playing 12 and sometimes 13 guys. That's a good thing sometimes but you want to have guys engaged in the flow of the game. Fatigue stops being much of a factor when you play 9 or so guys, then depth may have a point of diminishing returns. There isn't enough of a separation talent outside of Forbes and Denzel.

When we're able to run we devastate teams. Heading down for the game in Tuesday night.

I agree. And that is even more of an issue now with Schilling back. I can see maybe playing 10, but not 12 unless there are injuries, foul trouble, or maybe situationally where one of the guys can come in and provide a lift (like Goins vs Louisville). The trick will be figuring out which 10.

I also concur, weve got a about 3 too many players. Its hard to really get into a good flow with that many in the rotation. Next year is going to be a beautiful mess. This team is really interesting to watch. Again, a lot of good players but not a star laden team. We have a bunch of guys that play well together and we move the ball really well, not many errors and outlast teams. They are gassed and weve got fresh legs the whole game. We have a team thats a perimeter threat more than I remember in years thats great to be able to spread the ball the way we can. Spread was MSU -8.5 and we more than doubled that so id say it was a good day against a good team.

There's a positive with the energy they can bring and it makes foul trouble less of a problem. The negative is they you don't developed nearly the cohesion and chemistry when you're playing so many guys. If you look at the 4 spot we play bess, clark, goins, and davis, even Wolenman sometimes. You'd like to see one of those guys emerge as a 22 to 25 minute player.

And speaking of possibly having had even more bodies, I'm watching a bit of Purdue and Butler and though Swanigan is off to a good start in this one, looking at his stats for the season, I'm kind of glad he ultimately went elsewhere. He's 4th on their team in scoring but first in field goal attempts by a wide margin. Shoots only 42% from the field overall, and a third of his attempts are 3-pointers (hitting only 30% of those) and he leads his team in turnovers by a good margin from the 4 spot. Those are not winning numbers, other than perhaps what he does as a rebounder. I suppose it's working out well overall for Purdue, but not sure that would have been a fit here.

Davis only getting 10 mins worries me. We were also outrebounded for the first time this year.

I think this was the plan all along, he wasn't ready for 20 minutes but the injuries to clark and schilling forced him into action. He car run the floor, finish, and block shots but he has some work to do on ball screens and help defense.

Also dont want him to start tearing it up with good minutes and leaving after 1 year hehheheeh. Izzo knows what hes doing :hehe:

Purdue lost to Butler. Iowa State is losing to Northern Iowa.

This iowa game coming up is a big one. Its a small venue but never an easy one for us at carver. Im a bit nervous. I dont want to overlook oakland but that Iowa game is looming as a tricky one.

I expect us to lose the game at Iowa.

were going to drop one of these early B10 games based on statistics alone. Better to get it out of the way early, learn the lesson etc.

If it were my call......Bess and Clark would almost never see the floor.....and I like Goins game better than Schilling's.

My rotation...

PG - Narin 28-30 minutes - McQuaid 10-12
SG - Forbes 20-25 - Harris 15-20
SF - Valentine 32-34 - Clark 6-8
PF - Costello 25-28 - Goins 12-15
C - Schilling 15-20 - Davis 10-15 - Goins 5-10

That's 10 guys.....with Clark getting very limited minutes. Essentially 9. I do not like Bess.....I don't think he brings anything to the table.

You'd have to think that Costello and schilling will tag team like they did last year, I haven't seen them play together for more than a minute or two in their careers. I also like the offense when McQuaid and valentine operate as co point guards.

I think Bess does more things well than Clark, but he's undersized for a 4 and probably should just back up Denzel up at the 3 if they want a little defense (or if Denzel slides to the 1). However I think he'll continue to start at the 4 as I doubt Izzo wants to play Costello and Schilling together or move DD into the starting lineup, but his minutes will start dropping.

I agree on Clark. The one thing he's supposed to bring is shooting, but he's a bit streaky in that regard.

I think going forward the regular rotation will be Davis, Schilling, Harris, McQuaid off the bench. Ellis will play if Izzo gets PO'd at Harris's defense. Goins will play if Izzo gets PO'd at one of the other bigs. Clark will play if Izzo gets PO'd at one of the other bigs and wants someone who can knock down a shot sometimes, and either Goins or Clark might play if Schillng racks up fouls.
