I'm still expecting us to make a trade for a 2B/SS/3B, corner OF or starting pitcher. Something involving Perry, Schlereth, Boesch Young, Raburn, and maybe even Turner or Porcello could be upcoming. I just don't see us being satisfied with Young as our LF, Inge at 3B, Santiago/Raburn at 2B, and Turner/Oliver/??? as the 5th starter.

What say you?

We all can hope for that. It is discouraging to have platoons combos of either weak hitting and/or weak fielding players at those positions.
The way it looks now, we have become a version of the twins in the AL Central. Win the division and then bow out in the alds or alcs when up against more solid lineups/pitching teams.

Besides Turner not sure you'd get much for the rest.

My wishlist is at worst a LH #3 SP, a solid long reliever to pair with Coke, and either a SS or 2B that is above average on O & D, expecting the Tigers brass to obtain both a 2B and a 3B that are also studs, considering that both Inge and Peralta have a year remaining on their contracts is obviously unrealistic. At best I hope that they obtain a LH or SH 2B OR a SS and move Peralta to 2B, as I think that Jhonny would be more amenable to being moved to second than third, and if the Tigers did move Jhonny to 3B they would then have to trade or release Inge, and the problem at 2B would still remain, being manned by a musical chairs-like platoon of again perhaps Worth/Raburn/Santiago...ugh!!

We need an IF at least one. Either a 2nd IF or COF (or the Cuban guy). I'd be happy with that. SP would be icing.

I suspect they will stick with Turner as #5 unless something avails itself. Same with Inge at 3b (contract) and DY2.0 in LF. If I were to guess, I'd say 2b would be the area most likely to be shored up.

Da Meathook desires/is apparently attempting to make it known that he wants to try to make a comeback for next season with any MLB team that might be willing to give him a shot, from what I recently read online...too bad that he can't play any 2B/3B, otherwise he might be worth a tire kick or two in ST with his brother Delmon on one of his former teams...haha!!

What happened to all the speculation the wallet was opening up?

Tigers brass does make confusing/conflicting statements often...esp. when DD for example, is quoted or states that the club need to obtain players who fit the dimensions of CoPa's "spacious" OF, then in the next interview, he mentions that the club cannot afford more than two players on the roster who earn 15-20M per annum.

In today's MLB, it seems to be either feast or famine, when a club wishes to plug holes in their 25 man rosters, as obtaining a position player and/or SP/RP/CL that is worthwhile, becomes so long-term expensive as to make it very difficult if not impossible to plug/fill many if any other area(s) of need with halfway-decent players with reasonable contracts, so they often have to gamble on a player or players who is/are either unproven but have shown flashes of possessing a lot of potential, or who are VERY close to being past-prime but STILL want a contract that is long enough to virtually guarantee that half or far more of it/them will cripple the club financially and esp. performance-wise, when those players' skills on the field, and/or at the plate takes a sharp decline sometimes if not oft-times within just one season.

So there are as a result, plenty of small, and mid-market MLB franchises who are say pitching rich, but positionally poor, or vice-versa, or are going for mostly youth and blue-chip prospects while constantly "rebuilding" or they have more/many players who are technically over the hill, but the club is trying to squeeze just one more season out of them before their outright releases.

can't afford....lol

Illitch has a boatload of cash.....Im shocked he hasn't opened up the purse strings especially with mags and guillen off the books.

dip into some of that greektown money Mikey....you aren't getting any younger.

DD said he has zero interest in bringing Da Meathook back here.

Mr. I wants to win, but if the right players and deals aren't out there to get it's kinda hard to spend that money. I wouldn't be surprised to see us make some big trade deadline moves either... especially if we stand pat this winter.

Illitch is willing to open his wallet if the right players come along.

Other than Cespedes, they aren't out there this offseason, and he's not a FA yet.

I would say Gio Gonzalez but the A's want too much IMO... He's a good number 3, but I don't think he'll overtake Fister unless last season was a fluke..

Waaaay to much..the speculation of Turn, Castanotgonnaworkhereanymore, Boesch etc is ridiculous..sounds like a Felix Hernandez package. Your 2 best prospects, best corner outfielder and maybe throw in a mid 90's throwing lefty as well.

Let's say we lose out on Cespedes and don't make another trade during the offseason, would you be opposed to throwing a non-roster invite at Manny Ramirez as a potential corner OF/PH? I'd consider it given he'd probably cost nothing and I think he can still hit. I think we're one of the few teams that could actually get him to co-exist and play with a veteran, former teammate and friend in VMart, and a veteran manager used to dealing with big egos (e.g., Bonds, Pudge, Sheffield, etc.) in Leyland. I really do believe Manny would be an upgrade over DY and probably Boesch too.

absolutely not. forgetting for the moment the drug ban, gigantic ego, his age, and other huge problems, the guy is a liability in the outfield and his last good year was in '08. sure, we COULD sign him, but we absolutely should not.

What are you talking about? He was still a fantastic hitter in '09 and '10. I'm not gonna claim he's a capable outfielder, but he's probably no worse than DY is and he's a much better hitter than either DY or Boesch.

Manny:

Boesch:

Manny was just reinstated today and would only need to serve a 50-game suspension before he could start playing.

Sure, but hey, why not go all-out pick up/resign a couple more useta-been ex-Tiger antiques in Ordonez and Damon as well, to play in the Tigers' OF, couldn't be any worse on combined O/D that what will be there, since say what Damon in CF would do @ the plate would be more balanced overall than KJax, who has been exposed as being pritty shitty when having to come in from deeper CF on line-drives and sinking fly-balls hit to shallow center.

Damon or Ramirez would have to bat leadoff, but given what a black hole KJax was and likely will continue to be in that spot in the Tigers' lineup, how could Manny leading off really be any worse?
???
