Official Bye Week - MSU vs. Illinois Score Prediction Thread

Well, since we have a bye this week, I thought it might be fun to do a score prediction thread for our special buddies from MSU.

Illinois (5-4 / 3-3) enters this one flying high on a 3 game win streak (UW-@PU-Rutgers). MSU (4-4 / 2-3) on the other hand has struggled as of late losing three in a row, albeit against top flight competition (@OSU-@UW-PSU), though they didn't play well against any of the three.

The numbers don't lie though, and the numbers are not impressed with Illinois, and not as pessimistic toward MSU as their Sad Sack fanbase is:

*Vegas has MSU as a whopping 14 1/2 pt favorite, with an O/U of 46.

*Sagarin would predict an even larger 17 pt drubbing.

I guess we shall see if the Illini have overcome their earlier struggles and are not the same team that lost at home to EMU earlier this season, and if the Spartans aren't as punchless as they looked against top tier competition.

So go ahead and post your predictions with a bit of analysis if you'd like.

and remember, even though it's a bye week for us, rules are rules: save the woofing and the barking for other threads.

MSU....26
UI.......16

I don't think MSU blows them out but wins ugly by stifling the Illinois ground game. Peters can't beat them with his arm alone.

Illinois is hot right now and state sucks anyways, so I’m going with Illinois.

Illinois - 34

State - 17

I’m being generous with state.

Hey, where's Spartanmack? He disappeared after the Notre Dame blowout by a mediocre Michigan team. One would think he would be here enjoying his "second-favorite team's" victory.

Looks like he outed himself.

In defense of SpartanMack-whom I?ve met and I like-which shouldn?t be surprising; anyone paying attention should know it?s my nature to like people-My cousin Beverly views Michigan State, from where she graduated, as one of her two favorite teams, including Michigan.

Her sister was raised, like Beverly, as a Michigan fan-but-and I was included in the tribe, we always rooted for Michigan State against everybody else. Between she and her sister, there is a family agreement. They are neutral on the Michigan Michigan State game.

Damn, I was going to tie in that both of my cousins have met Hungry and Mich Lady, but I forgot what I was going to say to to into that.

Oh well.

But that happened.

nonsense... he was just too busy celebrating the big win for his second favorite team to remember to post.

I’ll take it.

MichDad called it.

Illinois totalled more than half their yards and 27 pts in the 4th Q. What a disaster for MSU. they need to beat both Rutger and MD to get bowl eligible.

They'll probably just cover up a rape instead.

MSU surrendered a 28-3 lead to a team led by an ex-Michigan QB, just like the Falcons did in the Super bowl.

dang.

nice stat!

Peters looked like a champ; I missed him throwing the pick late (was flipping back and forth between that and LSU-Bama) but his 4th and 16 conversion on their last drive was badass.

glad he's having the season he is. good for him. I wish it would've worked out better for us.

I'm not a dork, so I don't celebrate victories online - were you also one of those face painters when you were younger? But since you asked, I took my family to Florida to visit my parents for "New Jersey week." I really only used my computer to check emails for work - I think I may have mad a post on the politics board from my phone, but that's the only time I was on DSF since Halloween. I was hoping for a uofm win but wouldn't have been too broken up if they lost since I like ND too - my dad, 5 of my uncles and a bunch of my cousins went there so they were my favorite team growing up. Anyway, we had a really full Saturday and I was wiped out and fell asleep on the couch before kickoff and missed the whole thing - I did breeze through it with my dad the next morning on the DVR though. It made me realize how much I miss my DVR. Anyway, sorry to disappoint you, but congrats on the win.

In case you're wondering, I won't be rooting for them this week.

it was Lewerke's fault.

had he not airmailed a bad pass right to the defense, on the far side of the field, late in the 4th Q, no one would be talking about this game right now.

Illinois was going to score 20+ pts on your defense regardless. they put up 20+ on both UW, and on us. Lewerke's INT / pick6 got them over the 30 pt hump.

So yeah, it is Lewerke's fault.

I see you have a hard time with the number line as well as simple addition and subtraction. They scored 37, that's a lot more than 20+ for you math geniuses - and they scored over 30 pts without the pick 6. Here's a list of teams Illinois has scored more than 30 points on prior to Saturday:
- UConn
- EMU (a loss)
- Nebraska (a loss)
- Rutgers

Those teams are a combined 12-25 on the season (and 2 of the 12 wins are against Illinois).

Also, that pick 6 is nothing compared to the defensive lapses - like allowing a 17 yard completion to turn into an 83 yard TD, a 53 yard hail mary TD on an 81 yard drive with 32 seconds left in the half, allowing a 4th and 16 conversion and coughing up 18 yards on a screen pass from the 19. Let's see if you can guess how many teams have scored more than 30 points on Illinois and lost. Guess. How about 25?

So no, it's not Lewerke's fault. anyone who puts the loss on him is an idiot - not surprising you put the loss on him.
