OFFICIAL: Draft Day (Day One-Three)

He can move to LT at somepoint im sure. The kid has skills that you can see on film. He played against good pass rushers in the B10 a conference known for producing Olineman. I am happy they finally made a move on an olineman and am glad they didnt reach but took BPA. It has worked well so far with this regime. They scout well and really do there hw. They took Reiff because they see it not because Kiper and Mcshay see it.

I see him play LT on some of the film I saw. Is that where he played in college or was he more at RT?

I'd love a perfect LT but RT has been the worse on the Line for many many years.

you said he was at best a pro bowl RT....

and if finding a RT is so easy, why haven't we had a good one in......however many years? it's been so long, i can't remember the last good one. LT is obviously harder to find though. Guards are a dime a dozen. You can get guards in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounds.

At best which means that if he succeeds my expectations thats what he will be. I don't think he will.

Just my personal opinion, just not a fan of him and I disagree on guards. If guards were dime a dozen why haven't we had a decent guard here for the past what 10 years? I can't remember the last guard we had that was even mediocre. Rob Sims we got like 2 years ago and hes been solid, but it took us how long to find him.

Like someone mentioned above, New Orleans played with two Pro Bowl guards and mediocre at best tackles and they had amazing success with it.

If you'd ask any QB what they dislike more, pressure up the middle or from the outside and 9 times out of ten that QB would say pressure up the middle.

We will see what happens with Reiff, but I'm positive the Steelers have found their replacement for Alan Faneca.

Also maybe its just me, but Cherilus is a better RT then Peterman is a RG, IMO.

Wouldn't be surprised, especially with Mayhew's comments, if Reiff played LT, Backus went to RT, and Cherilus got pushed inside to RG to compete with Peterman.

Obviously more then likely Reiff plays RT as rookie and Goz goes to guard to push Peterman.

Oh, I strongly disagree. I'd take Rieff over DeCastro any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Similar physical tools, but Rieff is a workhorse and DeCastro isn't. Sorry, but I love the blue collar attitude that Rieff has.

You want a good O-Lineman? You look at schools like Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, etc... not Stanford. Get me them farm boys and I'll show you a great O-Line every time.

This isn't Madden...

Well, its not a surprise Mayhew and company go BPA. And apparently they saw Reiff as BPA. Not a shocker.

Then what do you think happens. Regardless where Reiff plays (LT or RT) Gosder or Backus either ain't playing the positions they played last year or one isn't on the roster. They have their swing tackle in Hilliard and they have their young project player in Fox. They won't keep 5 OT's

SO they either Cut Cherilis or move him to guard. Don't see how that unrealistic or as you put it, how its madden.

just curious, for those not liking the pick and realizing backus might not play all games next year due to his body breaking down...does the pick really not make sense? if the FO rated him above glenn, then we have to trust their judgment on that...but to not take a top rated OT...whether right or left...would have been crazy bad considering the top DBs were pretty much all gone if i'm not mistaken. DBs are still a huge need, so that would have been fine instead of OT, but many have been wanting them to draft OT now for 4 years and finally they did it.

of course we have to wait and see how it plays out, but that is the case with every pick. seems to me they will try him at both right and left in camp...he might be able to move backus to right which many have hoped to see for several years as well. even if he fails at OT tho, they said he has experience at OG as well...so he can actually help in multiple ways.

i'm still hoping...okay, praying...Fox will work out at OT. if that happens the lions have their 2 OTs for quite a few years to come. as some have stated, get a good C/OG in R2 or R3 and suddenly the OL is much less of a concern. as for the DB needs, Mayhew has done well in grabbing other teams scrubs who fit better on the lions before and hopefully he can again if they do go C/OG in R2.

Reiff may not start at all this year, that's something to consider.

I would guess they will let him compete at LT, RG, and RT in camp, and if he doesn't beat out the current players, fine. He gets a year or two of experience before he takes over a spot.

If he beats someone out, they move or get cut. It's simple.

I still don't see him beating out Backus this year for LT, and probably starting at RT, but you never know. Moving Backus to RT is where he belongs, so it could be a "kill two birds with one stone" approach.

I don't see Goz at RG, if he can't keep his spot, he's probably history.

Could go different ways. Backus at LT, Reiff at RT with Peterman as RG. Or combination. You need depth too. Gosder can go play ST for all I care.

I'm thinking they could trade up to a much higher 2nd tomorrow night? Give up their 4th..

Backus has said he won't object to moving if they ask him to, and he's much better in run blocking than pass protection.

Moving him wouldn't be the most unrealistic thing ever, if Reiff proves he can play LT.

This staff has never liked Cherilus at RT. Hes been benched how many times and if they felt they had an adequate replacement they would've got rid of him already.

Depending on where the staff views Reiff in his rookie year is gonna mean a lot. Regardless I'd be surprised if Goz stayed at RT, IMO he is either getting moved to guard or he won't be on this team.

Oh no doubt there. I'm not surprised by the number of trades as much as how cheap some of those trades were this year.

Giving up a 5th might be enough to move into the top 10 of round 2 with the way some of the first round deals went down. Rams have three picks in the top 13 tomorrow, they might be looking to deal some more.

Rams are the new Patriots, keep moving back. But they need so much, they have to start drafting talent though..

Can you imagine trading up to get Glenn? Reiff and Glenn both? >:D

DB would be screwed but much better OL.

They did the right thing. If im GM i go Decastro and start him at C. Thatd be the move that would make the line drastically better. But MM did the right thing....is a good pick. Not a sexy pick...but the right pick.
