Offseason Deals and Rumors

The Indians need to add a starting pitcher.
They have 4 pretty good pitchers behind Kluber in Carrasco, House, Salazar, and Bauer. Its just if all of those 4 young pitchers can put it together. I'm pretty sure they were one of the top 3 staffs after the all star break

It so sucks that we may have missed the WS title window with JV and Miguel.. So damn frustrating DD..

Back on the old ESPN board I said the Tigers would not win a WS with a 20 Mill player playing 1st. They had other options then. Now with two 20+ MILLION's on the team it is harder to put a 25 man team together! No bench, poor bullpen, and no depth makes this team worthless when the injury hits it.
Really what good does having great starters without a knock down bully pen?
Add this the oreo's scored more runs in ONE game than the tigers did in the series. 12in the 1st 10 for the tigers 1,2,3. FIX the PEN get better bench.
Any one thinks this offence with Alex, our shortstop weak bat no power and the new weak centerfielder 3 more weak outs to carry again. Is going to hit there way to the Division has got to be on something. One weak hitter in the AL is bad enough but 3 is not good enough to go far in the playoffs, let alone make them!

They're nice pieces if we had the roster and intelligence to use them right, which we dont.

- Avila hits righties well, all we gotta do is platoon him with McCann. We probably wont.
- Davis hits lefties well, all we gotta do is platoon him with Gose or a LHH corner of. We wont/dont have one, respectively.
- Gose theoretically could hit righties well, all we gotta do is platoon him with Davis or a RHH CF. We wont/dont have one, respectively.
- Iggy's bat would be ok with his spectacular defense if the other offensive holes get fixed.
- The top of the lineup is shit and could be fixed if Kinsler remembered how to take a fucking walk (despite his BA and RBI totals, he was barely above average offensively last year and was TRASH after the ASB) and/or we get a good OBP guy to hit up there with him. He likely wont, and we probably wont, respectively.

Davis, Avila, and Gose are NOT everyday players. Kinsler is not a leadoff/#2 hitter as it is right now. Properly used, they can be real assets, but we have to fill the holes we have properly and then use those players correctly. And its not like we can't fill these holes fairly cheaply, either.

But we won't.

Samardzija, Robertson to ChiSox. Mlb tonight thinks the division can be won on about 88 to 89 wins. Will the Tigers get a bounce back from Verlander? And will J.D. Martinez deliver another 2014 season in 2015?

Fourty Six million for a closer by the Chisox. Tigers have got to get some offence from some where? Question is here to find it. ANd FIX the BULL PEN. Problem is too much money too to few hurts the 25 man roster. Tigers are finding this out the hard way.

Bench and relievers are the talk of the day. It takes more than 20 mill+ stars to make a 25 man roster.

I'm not on Twitter, but I just saw this come up from Buster Olney when checking the ESPN MLB page...

Scherzer turned down $144 million in the spring from the Tigers, but Detroit really wants him back. 1 minute ago

The Tigers' focus is on retaining Max Scherzer. They are prepared to spend big, big dollars. Want to keep Price for 2015, too. 3 minutes ago

If that is the case trade Porcello for Justin Upton get a few cheap BP arms and hope they pan out and make one more run. Of course....look for them to turn into the Phillies of the midwest VERY soon!

Not a huge fan of Upton or Cespedes, but they are better than what we've got right now. Both do certain things well, but their games definitely have holes. I'd consider trading Porcello for one of them plus cheap, young pitching though.

I think the only way we can bring Max back is to trade Porcello (or Sanchez?) and his salary away. For some reason, I think that the Tigers are going to wind up with JV, Max, and Price locked up long-term. To do so, we may need to spin Porcello off this year, and Sanchez next year.

I think there is almost 0% chance that they have JV, Scherzer and Price long term. That would likely be over $100M in 4 players (including Miggy)

Tigers Focused On Retaining Max Scherzer
By Jeff Todd [December 9, 2014 at 1:39pm CST]
The Tigers are focused on retaining starter Max Scherzer, ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports on Twitter. Detroit is “prepared to spend big” to do so, Olney adds.

There had been some speculation that Detroit would not be willing or able to bring both Scherzer and David Price into 2015, but Olney shoots down that notion as well. He says the club intends to keep the recently-added Price for next year.

The report is unsurprising on some levels: the Tigers are, of course, a big-spending, win-now team that has agreed to massive deals with its own players. And it could still use the added rotation arm even after dealing for Shane Greene.

On the other, it is hard to imagine what the Detroit balance sheet will look like if a Scherzer deal is added to it. The club’s enormous commitments to Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander both pose significant long-term risk. After bringing back Victor Martinez for four years and $68MM, the Tigers are within shouting distance of the Dodgers in terms of total future payroll commitments, and would likely overtake Los Angeles by adding Scherzer.

Never under-estimate the power of having C. Montgomery Burns as our owner. He's pretty much going to keep throwing money at this until he gets his ring or dies.

I would rather trade Porcello for Rusney Castillo or Betts along with a young pitcher (owens? maybe that is asking too much).

It is strange how everyone wants to get rid of Upton and Cespedes. It makes me question their character.

I doubt those guys are on the trade market. Upton and Cespedes are on the last years of their contracts and each make about $15M per year which is ONE reason they are rumored to be on the trade block.

They wouldn't even trade Betts for Price. He is untouchable to them unless your name is Cole Hammels

Boston is in desperation mode when it comes to pitching. With Samardzija and Liriano off the market, the price for Porcello is going up. Let's hope that Dombrowski can work some of his magic.

I'm fine with Price, Sanchez, JV, RP and the new guy going into the season. Why not spend some money and get a bat..
