Ohio* fate decided today

I'm guessing they add a little more, but they don't get USC type sanctions.

I agree with Hungry. I do believe they should be hammered I doubt they will be.

well I assume they will walk, laughing all the way to the next scandal thats not a problem with the school. Just the players!

IMO, the PSU scandal has allowed the NCAA a window to not punish Ohio with additional sanctions because most people have short memories and obviously PSU's problems are considerably larger. NCAA might go light on Ohio so they can go heavier on PSU without killing their program. It will be very interesting to see what NCAA does with PSU as they might actually look at it more as a legal issue than one requiring their governance, so they might not actually do much to PSU either - especially since the PSU board has basically cleaned house. Still, they could get nailed with a LoIC for the mere fact the incidents took place for years despite people bringing it up the chain. Maybe they get a slap and probation, but they could also get the heaviest hammer since SMU in order to really drive home the importance of the issue. Tats for Cash and everything else at Ohio isn't even a blip relative to that.

The PSU issue is a legal one, not one the NCAA needs to be involved in. What could the NCAA do, that the government isn't already doing. PSU has cleaned house, and the incident didn't include players. Just a creepy old coach, who was "apparently" no longer part of the program.

The OSU scandal includes player and a "at the time" current coach lying to investigators. Of course the coach was "fired" but then given a retirement settlement and allowed to hang around.

My guess as stated, is OSU will skate. But I don't think the NCAA's ruling will be affected by the PSU situation. The two are not even comparable. OSU shouldn't be hit as hard as USC but the penalties should fit the crime, and the USC case is a good measuring stick.

Mark Emmertt and the NCAA will probably give O$U a bonus cache of money.

It's all about the BENJAMINS!

Delaney doesn't want his revenue gravy boat that is Ohio* to be messed with and the Ohio* AD is close to the NCAA and they already know they're getting away with all of it. Hell, they even managed to upgrade at the head coaching position without losing a single bowl game.

I think it is Failure to Monitor not Lack of Institutional Control.

It is "Failure to Monitor" that the NCAA added a few weeks ago.

And my guess is that it results in Tressel getting a "Show Cause," effectively banning him from the NCAA for a few years, and that he is thrown just a bit further under the bus, along with T_Peezy being the other fall guy.

Otherwise, nothing new and it's on to the Meyer era in Columbus.

Starting to see some Twitter rumblings (eg Joe Schad) that the NCAA ruling may be more severe than originally thought.

"do not be surprised if NCAA sends another message today w/ sanctions for Ohio State"

We shall see around 3.

The wildcard here is the repeat offender status. If you are hoping for the NCAA to drop the hammer this is your best hope really.

What I am watching with interest is what Gene Smith does. At one point there was a strong rumor saying that Smith would "step down" immediately after the sanctions were announced. The rumor was that it would be kind of a backdoor deal to appease the NCAA. That seems to have faded especially now that people are distracted by Urban Meyer and his recruiting successes.

FWIW: I just received this via IM:

Ohio State: bowl ban, increased probation, scholarships, Tressel show-cause penalty
that's from Joe Schad

It was a snippet on a sports update between segments of the Max Kellerman and Marcellus Wiley show - it was a local to LA update. At the beginning of the segment, Max Kellerman reported the same thing.

Obviously they didn't get the whole story; now they're updating their report to include the scholarships lost.

Yeah, one of the things I was watching was to see how fast and how accurate people were responding to see who has insider information and who does not. I wasn't trying to take a shot at you or anything.

HAHAHAHA!!!!

Hey... SB...

You can't spell BOWL BAN without an O-S-U- oh, wait, yeah you can.
