OMFG I am going COMPLETELY CRAZY for March MADNESS

Purdue might end up regretting purposely fouling up 3 at the end of regulation. I'm not a fan of doing that

they shouldnt - giving up the offensive rebound off the missed feee throw is what they should regret

edit: i say this having not seen it since i dont have TBS - watching play-by-play on phone. why arent theae all on cbs?

damn. Edwards finally misses a three when they really need it.

5.7 to go, down three. I want another OT...

I get your hot but only down 1 or 2 why settle for a long three ? He drove on the a play before and scored. He settled when he should have drove to the hoop.

Virginia back to the final four first time since 1984. After tying that game up like they did Virginia feels like a team of Destiny after what happened last season.

I'd say Virginia exorcised a few demons with that game. Had to withstand one of the hottest shooting performances I've ever seen and convert on a crazy play to force OT.

I expected him to drive as well... only down 1, with plenty of time.

I don't agree with doing it. Up 3 the worst that can happen when you play it out is the other team hits a 3 to tie. When you foul you actually increase the chances of actually losing

i rhink missing the free throw just before that and giving up an offensive rebound off the uva missed FT are bigger regrets.

u may increase the odds of losing but i think it also increases your odds of winning in regulation and by more than you increase the odds of losing. by fouling, you reduce the odds of a tie and most of that goes to the odds of wiining in regulation than losing in regulation. i dont know how you can measure it but thats what im thinking it would do.

TT is for real apparently. I didnt think they would have enough shooters to win. I figured Gonzaga would overwhelm them. I do feel better about UMs loss, now.

didnt see it but they beat a good team - and they did it in a fairly high scoring game. i thought it would take a game in the low 60s or lower for them to win. still their d is for real - even in a weaker conference, having the #1 ranked defense in the country says something.

but at the end of the day, i care a lot more about your other prediction coming through than that one - esp since i want MSU to not just beat dook but to win it all

Yeah someone did a study one time and fouling and putting them on the line is by far the higher percentage play. The odds of getting offensive rebounds on a missed FT aren't good unless you can miss the shot perfectly and have it come out long. And even if you can secure the rebound in that situation it's usually a difficult shot attempt that'll come from it. Purdue's mistake was doing it with 5 seconds left, which allowed Virginia to formulate something after a tapout went all the way beyond halfcourt.

EDIT: Watching the post game right now and Jerome said he didn't even miss the second on purpose. So they felt there was still THAT much time left that they weren't at that point yet.

But that was just a great game. I can't help but feel good for the Virginia kids after the previous early exits, and after what happened to them last year and having to live that down. And Edwards came out and was hitting everything in site, and they had to match that. He and Guy were going shot for shot for awhile there in the second half.

I forgot that UVA's coach was the son of Dick Bennett. Makes Purdue's loss even worse. Dick Bennett is a felony against basketball. His son is at least a misdemeanor.

And neither of them are related to the Good Tony Bennett:
