I am just not fan of this one game playoff format that MLB is doing...I would much rather see a season of 135 to 155 regular season and then let the extra playoff series be a two out of three or three out of five...Shorten the regular season and then the playoff teams would have a chance to make the world series by playing series not one and done games.. Just not a fan .. Anybody else have any ideas?

I go right along with what you're saying, shorten the regular season, make the wild card playoff a best 2 out of 3 and keep the rest of the playoffs the same.

I just am not a fan of seeing baseball played in the cold weather in some northern teams in October.

You shorten the season you mess up the record books and the HoF qualifiers. Guys will have fewer games to hit comparative numbers. A guy Like Cabrera having an historic season like in 2012 sure pales if you cut 20 or so games to other triple crown seasons.

The problem is the extra WC itself. It's not about the good of baseball, it's about TV ratings. MLB would love to have NHL/NBA style playoffs but they can't because it would take too long, their alternative was shoehorn another team in without extending the total length.

1 game playoffs are stupid, and nobody anywhere knows that better then Tigers fans. The second wildcard is a sham, and that's another black mark on Selig's legacy.

The records were fine for HOF when the schedule was 154 games which I would support going to... But 145 would be better.. We would all have to just get used to it..

Schedule DH. And none of that day night bullshit. But baseball would make less money so they don't do it any more. Its never about us, the fans. Or the good of the game. Its about the Benjamin.

Taking out even 8 games, less money for them. Once they add two more teams, which IMO they will, stretch out the WC - they get more money.

If there are fewer games, ticket prices will rise to compensate.

one problem with 2 of 3 is the teams that are waiting. We have seen what happens to a team when they don't play for a week.

It's the wildcard...win your division. Otherwise, consider yourself lucky to even have a shot at sniffing the World Series!

No doubt and I get that. But hearing them talk its almost like they add things for "us", for the fans. And that is so not the case.

I think it is great for baseball fans. It brings more teams into the mix for the playoffs AND increases the value of winning the division.

My post was a generalization as in all things, day-night DH, Adding games - extending the playoffs. I still liked the 4 divisions 4 teams in..You're kidding yourself though if you think they added the WC teams for us..

And starting on a Friday now instead of Tuesday like they have always had..I don't want November baseball.

of course they did it for $ but with fan interest comes $. Adding the WC & one game playoff creates more fan interest.

Fan interest to who 2-3 teams ? Some teams get fan interest whether they're in connection or not.

WC didn't make me more interested, my team already won their division.

but given the one game playoff we were all more interested up to the end about winning the division. Plus like you said...there were 2-3 extra teams that had a vested interest. Also, three more games all of which were sudden death. I almost never watch a game that doesn't involve the Tigers but I did watch both of the one game wild card games.

You were up probably one of only a handful. But the point I was trying to make was that Bud wasn't like "let's add more WC teams, we'll get more fan interest." "It was, let's add more WC teams and make more money."

exactly...but the only way you make more money is more fan interest. Baseball is in the business of making money and the way they make money is fan interest. They go hand in hand.

Regardless, I'll go back on topic. Less playoff teams the better. I never enjoy a team who wasn't good enough to win their division to get hot at the right time and win a title. Goes for football too. Granted, it doesn't happen much but still..

Don't get me started on Hockey and NBA, they're the worse.
