One Game playoff format..Possible changes

Regardless, I'll go back on topic. Less playoff teams the better. I never enjoy a team who wasn't good enough to win their division to get hot at the right time and win a title. Goes for football too. Granted, it doesn't happen much but still..

Don't get me started on Hockey and NBA, they're the worse.

I understand your point of view. I look at a little differently. I think giving a team that is better than some of the other division winners a shot but it needs to be a long shot. That is why I really like the one game play in. It REALLY gives an advantage and incentive for the teams that win their divisions. Baseball is by far the best IMO because fewer teams get in. I'm with you as far as the playoffs in the NBA and NHL.

I've come to view it this way for the most part, and bdtay made the same observation earlier - wild card qualifiers failed to win their divisions. Whatever they get is a bonus for them.

So what if they played a 162 game season? Every team that didn't make the post season also played a 162 game season, and ended up with jack shit.

The thing I would change is, if there is such a clamor for expanding the wild card, instead of best of three, I would add two additional wild card qualifiers in each league, and have two rounds of single elimination games that a team that didn't win a title would have to win in order to qualify to take on a division winner in a post season series.

December baseball, sweet.

Side edit: If my team isn't in it, WS baseball IMO sucks. Not because Detroit isn't in it, but the fact the later it goes - lets see 'Boston vs Atlanta in November or the NFL? So a WS game on Thursday, Sunday or Monday I'm not watching.

Its the reason why I don't watch the bowl season in college. It was great when games ended on New Years. Now they get extended a week, a work day nonetheless - and with the new playoff format, even worse.

More is not always better.

I rarely watch any baseball if the Tigers aren't playing. I might catch a little bit of the playoffs or WS but not too much. I will watch some of the Bowl games but that is mostly because that is all that is on that time of year.

of course they did it for $ but with fan interest comes $. Adding the WC & one game playoff creates more fan interest.

And yet the ratings are still in decline. So much for "more fan interest".

Yep. Its all about football. Even in the spring, you have the NFL draft - team trade, FA and all that jazz.

Fan interest doesn't always work. Cleveland and Tampa were last in attendance. Even Pitt was middle of the road.

Just do a three game series

It's only two more games and it wouldn't delay the rest of the playoffs too much and you wouldn't need to change the regular season.

It's a bit ridiculous that in a sport where one game is seemingly insignificant in comparison to the whole season that one game decides who moves on to the playoffs.

Do away with the wild card and only the 3 division winners go on. Best record gets bye. Just like back in the day.

DC 33

When did the best team ever get a bye. I don't seem to remember that era.
