Casey Mize is returning to Lakeland, per A.J. Hinch. Tigers are going to slow down his rehab program.
Hinch didn?t use the word ?setback? but clearly this is going to take a little longer than first hoped.

Detroit Tigers send Casey Mize (elbow) back to Lakeland: 'We're going to slow him down'.

Fascinating Tigers OAA numbers 2022:
Schoop +6
Baez +2
Candelario 0 (how is that possible)
H. Castro -7
Harold Castro at -7 means for every inning he has played..he has booted every ball hit to him..and failed to catch warm up throws..plus some undetected biting.

Interesting facts about Willi Castro
highest chase rate on the team 45.7%
3rd lowest barrel rate on the team 2.9%
lowest exit velocity 82.4
lowest hard hit rate 14.7%
highest swing % 61.7%
highest first pitch swing % 41.9%
this isn't gonna end well.

MLB last year through May 6:
30,538 ABs, .234 AVG, .308 OBP, ????,???????????? ????????????
MLB this year through yesterday:
31,170 ABs, .234 AVG, .306 OBP, ???????????? ????????????

HR's are down 18%..yes..its the ball..guess who regulates the ball..strange choice..guess who paid power hitters more money..seems strange when you base spending on a reliable environment and get chaos..sabotaging your own sport..MLB is very good at that.

Chase% of DET hitters (2022)
W Castro 45.7
Reyes 44.8
Baez 44.7
Candelario 36.6
Scoop 36.4

Bottom of the list
Cabrera 28.9
Barnhart 22.9
Meadows 22.6
Torkelson 20.4
Baddoo 20.2
Grossman 16.3

swing at strikes..it matters.

Michael Pineda hit on his throwing hand on a 106 mph comebacker by the 2nd batter of the game. Pulled from the game after only recording one out.

Tiger's bad luck continues.

edit...it was the 2nd inning

..and another starting pitcher goes down to injury.. see ya in 2 months buddy.. Bring up some more 19 year olds to get shelled in the bigs.. sounds good.

Baez with a terrible/selfish play. Cut in front of Schoop who was standing still waiting for a ball up the middle. Baez had a bad throw to 1B for a throwing error.

Willi Castro home run,

Tigers lead 3 - 0,

Miguel Cabrera has back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time since his string of nine consecutive hits last September.

Tigers win second straight, but Pineda leaves with broken finger.
Detnews

Hinch said it was too soon to know if surgery will be required and Pineda is expected to be examined by the Tigers' hand specialist in Tampa on Monday. But that's four starting pitchers down now ? Pineda joining Casey Mize (elbow), Matt Manning (shoulder) and Tyler Alexander (elbow).

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

Miguel Cabrera has been one of the few bright spots this year because of his quest for 3,000 hits and continued climb up the offensive ladder of MLB history. When his contract expires at the end of 2023, he could conceivably rank as high as #18 in this most prestigious hits club.

Miggy has also reached 2 other elite hitting heights in which the only other members are Hank Aaron and Albert Pujols. In the other category, it?s just Hank and Miggy.

However, Miggy is now 39 years old. Age and injury have slowed him down significantly. He no longer hits regularly for power and is very slow around the base paths.

A well-respected national analysis earlier in the week pointed out that Miggy ranks near the bottom of DHs and hits below average for the purpose of this position. Some argue that by playing him, it restricts the team?s ability to build a better roster and be flexible enough to win more games.

For the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Cabrera is owed a guaranteed $64 million.
But the Tigers must also pay a buyout which is an additional $8 mill.

On the other hand, Miggy has the ability to achieve lofty, historic goals by still playing. Goals that will make him the last player for many decades to achieve them. Goals that will put the Tigers in the history pages of MLB.

And he is still the fans? favorite player and remaining face of the franchise. More people come to games because of his name recognition.

So how should the Tigers handle this dilemma?

Should they allow Miggy to finish out his contract for all the reasons listed above?

Or should they seek to buy him out at the end of the 2022 season?

Is it more important for him to move up the history ladder or is the priority on the team being able to move forward and progress in their rebuild? Will this team be ready to compete in 2023?

Today?s blog addresses this dilemma and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog only, you?ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts.
Of course, you can respond to as many other readers as you want.

TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.
Ready?

What should the Tigers do about Miguel Cabrera after this season?

1. Allow him to finish out his contract which ends after the 2023 season.

2. Buy out his contract after this season.
