I want a Mastiff so bad. I want a big dog, and I have my wife talked into it.

The deal is we have to move to a farm. We currently live in the country, but don't have enough land to run a farm. That and I have to complete the OPOTA and find a job.

I have one....6 months old and hes 60 lbs already lol. You dont really need a huge yard for them. The bigger they are the lazier they are. Think of it as a big couch. Great with kids. Suseptible to bloat so watch how fast they eat/drink.

They have a ton of genetic health problems.. On a farm you would be better off with a lab, collie or a Shepherd of some sort.

Its a long story, my Mastiff will be a house dog.

How is the maintenance on a Mastiff. My wife worries about them slobbering all over everything, all the time. Also the shedding, I figured for a big dog it would be bad. From what I have read its not horrible.

Slobbering is an issue. I've never owned a mastiff, but I've been around a couple. They can turn a clean water bowl into a huge mess in a matter of seconds. It looked like the dog threw up in the water bowl because of food particles and slobber. It was disgusting. They do make pretty intimidating watch dogs though.

i know a guy that breeds them

slobbering, huge turds, short lifespan, expensive food bill, expensive to buy, and expensive vet bills...

w/out paperwork, a tree and knowledge of how it was bred... nah..

I had an american bulldog and they were bred from the mastiff family. Slobbering is a huuuuge issue. Don't let him on your furniture he will ruin it. Bathing is also a problem because a wrinkly dog can get infections if you let it go. Hope he likes water because wrestling with a dog that big while bathing them suuucks.

My brother has one and I had to keep it while he was on vacation a few times. They are aweful!!! Slobber everywhere. And he is a monster 180lbs. Big piles of shit. Drool off of his mouth 2 feet long. But, he is a very nice dog and really playful. The drool is just too much. I look through the sliding door and see that drool and instead of playing with him, I have to avoid him. Another side effect to him playing is that more water equals more drool. So you don't want to get them thirsty. His is an old english mastiff. You should have a big yard for them.

Marlo hates saving lives and supports killing dogs because he wants a piece of paper. Im not paying $1300-$1500 for a piece of paper. I like my $60 dog

Sure do. I like to know they aren't inbred and have a healthy family tree. You get what you pay for.

Why are you paying $1300 for a dog, thats nuts. (Mastiffs are not that costly)

No pound dog for me.

My favorite dog has to be a boxer. If I get a lot of land like I want id want a husky too. No way I'm getting a damn sled dog with a small yard.

Mastiffs are pretty sweet dogs too.

I once pickled with The Beast with my Pf Flyers.

Boxers are cool dogs, but from my experience it seems like a high percentage have a screw loose. When they are laid back, they are awesome. If you get a crazy one, good luck with that.

He said he wanted a strong breed with papers. If your looking to buy a full breed mastiff from a breeder youre going to be paying over a grand...book it.
