Why are you paying $1300 for a dog, thats nuts. (Mastiffs are not that costly)

No pound dog for me.

He said he wanted a strong breed with papers. If your looking to buy a full breed mastiff from a breeder youre going to be paying over a grand...book it.

Not around me, seems they run $600 to $800. If you want the American Mastiff, which is not a true Mastiff and is prone to temperament problems, your looking at well over a grand.

my buddy sells the nonshow quality for 600. He had 2 show quality pups last litter and he says he asks for 1g for those, but will settle for 800

I guess it depends on their coloration.

my aunt got us a dog from a shelter as a puppy, and he had his papers/pedigree.

getting a dog from a shelter doesn't automatically mean it's going to be a nightmare.

I would probably wouldn't get a dog that didn't have some documentation, but I wouldn't rule out a shelter dog. It's kinda insane to spend as much on a dog as some people do when there are plenty of them out there for nearly free. I mean, unless you're actually going to show it, or you need a trained working dog, paying $800+ isn't necessary.
