A cross-sampling of posts from the Boston.com article, names removed to protect the arrogant:
"Dump Drew,Ortiz,Varitek and Wakefield. Tell the Cubs they have to take Lackey or no deal. ( I don't even want a player in return..just get Lackey outta here.) If the Sox have any hope of keeping Ellsbury Youkilis has to go. I would see if I could interest Seattle in a package of Beckett and Youkilis for Felix Hernandez. The only 2 starters I would keep are Buchholz and Lester. Beer would be banned in both clubhouses home and away....in fact...I'd lock the clubhouse during games! Plenty of other teams ban alcohol in the clubhouse such as the Mets and Yankees.Honestly,I'd much rather see a lineup with kids liek Middlebooks,Iglesias, Kalish and Lavarnway scuffle to eek out 85 wins than to watch another inning of these overpaid, over the hill frauds!"
"From many accounts, it appears Varitek had several opportunities to lead this team in 2011 but failed to do so. If anything, he damaged his chances of managing baseball immediately after his retirement. 2011 could have set him back 5 years, but only if it his desire to manage some day. This year, we saw why many players don't care for Varitek, as fans are turning as well. He rubbed me the wrong way. No more gravy for Varitek. Rip that C off his chest now.
He deserves nothing."
"This is one of the many reasons why I've been saying for some time now that this team needs to get younger. Younger players are eager to play and to play hard, as well as less likely to break down at the end of the long season, but more importantly, they don't pull cr@p like this in the clubhouse. It's a lot of the veteran players on this team that are the problem, with their exagerrated sense of entitlement, feeling that continued training and doing drills during the season are beneath them. This is where MLB has really screwed itself with the CBA with the players union. They can't just cut the dead weight like they can in the NFL, so they're stuck with players like Lackey and there's not much they can do punish Beckett and Lester for their lack of performance and getting out of shape. But that's why the culture had to change, starting from the top. A new manager, who won't be meddled with from the FO so he can make decisions based on baseball, not PR or how much a player is being paid, is paramount in turning this thing around."
"I don't think you can just spout out the season ERA of Lester and Beckett, similar to the way one can't look at the season numbers of A-Gone and say he was great. The article was spot on in terms of how their attitude affected them during the last month of season as well as their poor conditioning. You cannot pass it off as a bad month. They made it a bad month. A-Gone had great overall numbers but most of it was before July. He failed down the stretch as well.
This should make for an interesting opening day at Fenway next year. Beckett, Lester and Lackey should all be booed off the field. It's cheesy but the only thing a fan can do to express disappointment at a player.
Lackey is untradeable so let's hope he is part of the Theo package. Beckett can probably still generate some value in a trade but certainly not as much as a month ago. Lester has the biggest value just for being a lefty. I'm sure there are teams that don't care he likes beer and is fat."
"Personally, I'm glad the 2011 Red Sox collapsed. WHY? Because they were the most arrogant, pampered, selfish collection of guys ever assembled, and the fact that this "stuff" is all coming out now is poetic justice.
One last note, just like "Tito" Francona, I'm sure "Boy-Theo" can't get out of town quick enough. And I'm positive he's thinking along the lines of, "it's time for somebody else to come in and clean up this mess, and boy -- I can't wait to get to Chicago, it's so much nicer there."
Muaahaha..suck it up, BlowSux Nation!!!
