OT: Only in Ohio

Well I keep seeing a picture on facebook of all the animals shot down and killed. Not sure why they couldn't just put them to sleep and moved to a zoo or back to their natural home. Especially the less harmful ones like a zebra.

I was just at a zoo the other week with my son and they had zebras with no wall or fence from us (we were on a train ride). But yep, you sure gotta murder those damn killer zebras

My friend told me that Jack Hanna was on GMA this morning and he was helping the authorities with this. Anyway, he was saying that they can't tranq them at night because they get scared, run off and when they go to sleep, they can't always find the animals.

I guess tranqing animals at night would be a challenge, but that's probably not the biggest deal.

the bigger part of it is time and resources: people really expect a small town sheriff in ohio to foot the bill required to catch all these things, and truck them to zoos?

just shoot and kill. cheaper and easier. whatever.

our country is doing much worse things to actual fucking human beings, both domestically and abroad... get your priorities straight.

Hard to tea q a 300 lb big cat at night

Jack Hanna said they had tobe killed

Bengal tigers only 1400 in the world and like ten here

I actually am almost sick -yes they are animals but their lives were ruined and magnificent animals

No one should be keeping exotic animals -I donor even like zoos

agreed. designate some nature preserves and stay out of them.

This story is infuriating to me. The stupdity of all involved is mind boggling. There should be laws against keeping dangerous animals like this. I mean there are laws against having pitbulls and vicious dogs in many towns. I wonder if there is a leash law in this town? I'll bet you there is, but no law against keeping a tiger or lion, etc. That will change after this I imagine. Very sad.

according to the freep, ohio has the laxest laws related to the keeping of dangerous animals in the nation; on top of that, they allowed the existing law on their books to lapse earlier this year.

sounds like it didn't matter to this guy, since they weren't enforcing the law anyway.

Our old governor, Strickland, had a ban on exotic animals but when Kasich came into office, he let it expire. But yeah, definitely more laws on this sort of stuff.

I guess, everything is caught. So no lion skin rug for me. Old Jungle Jack saved the sheriff office a TON of bad publicity by stepping in and voicing that they did the right thing. Something like 8 animals will be taken to the columbus zoo.

Ohio law doesn't require a permit for exotic animals, although they should. Also if you have them I think they should be highly regulated.

As for all the people wanting to use a tranq gun, thats a lovely idea. However it doesn't put the animal down right away, and they usually run off. This requires tracking, in the great plains of Africa it may be a bit easier than the hills of eastern ohio. Its thick over that way, and I couldn't imagine tracking a down lion that could come back to life. Ever try to track a wounded deer? A decent blood trail is tough enough, let alone no blood trail. Also to add to the danger these animals more than likely shed their fear of humans, making a dangerous situation worse.

I was really looking forward to Safari Ohio!
