OT Yes, God does speak to me (and others)

Religion is so damn confusing. Why do Christians ignore the Coran?
Are the 1 Billion Hindus in the world all going to Hell?
How about the 1 Billion Buddhists?

1. Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God, as well as God himself. The Quran does not support that belief.
2. Are non-christians going to hell? Not necessarily. Neither are all Christians going to heaven. I'm reasonably certian that some selected Popes are not in heaven and some very devout Muslims are.

Who had the authority to superceed the Old Testament with the new?

The Mosaic laws of the Pentatuch were destined to be replaced by the NT from the beginning; it's right there in Genesis. There are references to Christ throughout the OT, written hundreds of years before he was born to Mary.

As for the tens of thousands of Christian sects in the world, that's a function of human nature to define God on our terms rather than the other way around.

But if we use an approach where we compare two sets of thought, find incompatibility, and therefore throw them both out, then I don't need to believe in quantum physics or the theory of relativity anymore, right? That would simplify things.

...or do I need to be more sophisticated than that? Apply each to certain circumstances and hope that someday we'll develop a new understanding that makes them compatible?

"Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

I doubt that any muslim, hindu, or even an Atheist would ever say this. I've yet to find any other verses that back up the theory that non-Christians can get into Heaven. You're right, though. Most Christians will not be going to Heaven.

Didn't the Pope just recently say atheists can go to heaven too? He counts as a member of a Christian sect.

Yes, but the statement was taken back. The church immediately came out and said the pope misspoke and the only way to get to heaven is through christ blah blah blah.

I thought the pope could communicate with god. Seems like he would have verified information like THAT before making such a declaration.
GBIA, give the big guy a yell and verify this for us heathens if you would.

You can be more rudimentary and let Natural Selection do it.
Surely we can all agree that Natural Selection is indeed fact, even if we can't agree that evolution is real.

Rather presumptious for you to pass judgment in this way, especally when, as I understand, you don't believe that such a place exists.

And Jesus' promise to Dismas, the Good Thief, and no Christian, was not granted because he made that claim of Paul's. The souls Jesus rescued from Hell after he died were not Christians. Athiesm is another thing altogether and cannot be grouped with other religions.

I think that was his point, that nobody is going.

Athiesm is another thing altogether and cannot be grouped with other religions.

I think be definition Athiesm is the absence of religion.

Regarding quantum physics and general relativity?...What?

We all can communicate with God. What the Pope said about athiests and heaven in no way contradicts what the Church teaches.

Well shoot. I never even heard of policymic.com. Guess I've been listening to the wrong church this whole time.

(of course, by that, I mean the qualifier "knowing the Church as founded by Christ and necessary for salvation" is a pretty high hurdle to put to an atheist. I'm guessing most don't clear it...so the view that policymic speaks for the Church with their interpretation is not shared by me.)

again, you clearly didn't read the link.

Vatican officials are the ones who said that, not the website. :ashamed:

Not at all presumptuous. The bible says a few times (a couple from Jesus, himself) that not many Christians will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

?Unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.?

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

And no, I do not believe in God. I'm only pointing out that many (shouldn't have said most) Christians will not get into Heaven, even if they think they've lived a clean life.

Atheism is a lack of belief and therefore is not a religion. It's more of a community.

just so you guys don't actually have to read....from the article...

"However, in saying that atheists could go to heaven last week, the pope appears to have gone too far. The Vatican has issued a statement correcting the pope's statements, citing a misunderstanding of the pope's statement."
