OT Yes, God does speak to me (and others)

And I prefer the light-hearted Tongue-in-cheek snappy comebacks to the heavy intense life changing debate any day of the week.

But that spoon in the disposal concherto really grinds me.

I see what you did there.

Didn't want you to think it went unnoticed. ;-)

Thanks. I appreciate that.

I don't know if I should make a joke about depends, viagra, or Alzheimers.
I'm sure any of the 3 would have hit a soft spot. :ashamed:

(ah- viagra it is.)

Wow! An old-guy joke trifecta!

Thanks. I appreciate that.

Better mind yourself, sonny. You're only 9 years my junior. :p

Yeah, well I went back and fixed it, and referenced you in reason for editing.

>:D

I'm just glad I quoted it for future reference. For the right inducement it could be corrected in my quoted post.

I think mine eluded you though.

Sometimes the club performs it a capella; other times accompanied by a small brass section.

I did notice it, but it was the post right before I lost my superscripts and all of the old-jokes broke loose. I apologize for the lack of attention to your otherwise extremely pun-y reference.

During my midnight snack and viewing The Mummy, two posts came to mind. I'll have to go find them.

God defined his terms of aligning ourselves with his will. It's not complicated. Difficult to do, easy to grasp. And we all have the licence to accept or not. He loves us that much. Those who challenge the media through which God's existence and intent are communicated hopefully also apply the same scrutinty to anything that was written throughout history as valid.

Four men took the time to scribe the story. Four different men, writing at different times. Two of them were Apostles and two were not. Some question the actual authors; no one questions that they chronicled the life of Christ. Many people also recorded the OT. The process itself belies the notion that they were disengenous. And someone said that it would take more than a mere book to convince him of the existence of God. He's right. A book cannot be the sole reason. The Catholic Church was in existence for 300 years before the Bible was compiled. The writings existed, but they were not organized into the first Bible around the time of the Council of Nicea in 325, which was not convened for Biblical Canon.

The Bible is not the source of my belief and faith, but I believe what's in the New Testament, which supercedes the OT in some ways, and, also, when read thoroughly, is fulfulled by the NT. They are called types. I also believe much of what's written in the OT, that which was not replaced-updated by the NT. Including the flood. God is God. I'll not be selective in evaluating his actions.

I've also heard, without a doubt, a heavenly choir sing. Time and circumstances are too involved. But I did. And I'd love to say it was transformational, but it merely validated what I believe already.

Bingo! I clicked Page 10 and it was the first post.

Byco, earlier this evening I started to reply to this post three times, but couldn't come up with anything that didn't sound sycophantic, so I deleted it each time. I wanted to come back and thank you for the contribution.

I typically stay out of these discussions and for many reasons. But ...as I've said before in other, similar threads, my Mom is a minister and for a time so was my stepdad. I got to see the "church" from the inside and can attest to seeing and knowing about many, many rather unHoly things taking place behind the scene. And no, not talking about Catholic Priests and the child molestation stuff, but pastors lying and stabbing one another in the backs politically ....the same power struggles that any other organization or company might face. And, taken on the whole, while many ministers come across as meek or Godly or reverent, they are an arrogant lot and many have rather large egos.

I have made the analogy before ...it's like having grown up in Hollywood and being on set and seeing what really happens when movies are made.

Sort of takes away from the "magic" on the screen.

My relationship with God to me is my business and my relationship and I don't really care for others telling me much more about it.

I felt the need to come back to this post by Vic.

I made a comment earlier about having seen the opposite of what you did, but didn't want to give the impression that there were never any problems. There are many preacher's kids that heard one thing on Sunday, but saw something completely different during the week. My upbringing wasn't like that. I saw the same thing Mon-Sat that I heard Sunday morning. So, as far as my father was concerned, I was blessed.

But, there was a situation that occurred when dad started the church that he told me about when I was 15 or so. He said when he made it public that he was going to start a church in Garden City that a pastor from an established church invited him to lunch. As they talked, this other pastor said something along the lines of, "You take everything west of Middlebelt. I've got the east side covered." Dad looked him in the eye and asked, "Are you saying that every family east of Middlebelt attends your church?" He had to reply, "No." Dad said, "Let's just both spread the Gospel and let people go where they feel led." Last time he had an issue with him.

Dad once counciled a woman whose husband didn't attend the church. He didn't like that his wife sought council so he called dad at home one night and said, "I'm going to get some friends and come over and move some refrigerators!" Which was a new one on me, but meant he intended bodily harm. The guy never showed.

Those are the only two incidences that I heard of. There may have been other things when I was a kid, but when I turned 20 or so I was ordained as a deacon and was in any meetings that would have brought up conflicts with other churches or pastors.

Interesting facts (or not): Did you know that little ol' Garden City is the home of not one, but two, nationally known companies?

Yep, the K-Mart on Ford Road by Middlebelt is the very first. And the Little Caesars at Cherry Hill and Venoy is the first as well. Ilitch opened it in May of 1959. I remember the date because I was born in Jan of '59. Also, it opened as "Little Caesars Pizza Treat" because Ilitch wanted to name it Pizza Treat, but his wife wanted Little Caesars. They dropped the Pizza Treat part and she was the winner in the long run. Depending on how many years he worked from that location, I'm sure I met him as a kid. We lived two minutes by car and ordered fairly often.
