Any thoughts of what our offseason will be like?

For example, will Mayhew use late round picks in trades to acquire players their original teams no longer want? Will our draft be more position focused instead of BPA? CJ and Staff get newer/longer deals? Who will be our main FA targets?

I think we resign both Tulluch and Avril. Then we either restructure or trade/release Burleson, KVB, and Corey Williams. Re-upping CJ is probably #2 or #3 on our teams to do list, and he will get paid. However, if there was a elite WR that would take less money (meaning less than Fitz), Calvin would be that guy. Stafford somewhat seems to be the type of guy to do the same. Both seem very committed to this team and organization.

I hope we only go OL or DB in the first 3 rounds of the draft. And we pick up one of each in FA.

I do think that after one offseason Titus would be able to be our #2, but I would prefer we keep Burleson (if he restructures).

Drop Williams and KVB, add a CB or S in FA, draft Oline in the first round. Resign Avril and Tulloch.

We're not cutting KVB. We'd take a $2.46 mil cap hit. Not saving enough.

The cold, hard reality of this off-season is that the Lions dealt picks and traded picks with the Vikings and Seahawks, in order to move up in two previous consecutive off-seasons of drafts to snag Best and Leshoure BOTH of whom may not pan out, b/c of career-threatening injuries.

Both also were expected to play KEY roles in the Lions run game as situational RBs one complementing the other. Now the Lions are AGAIN faced with another draft day dilemma, b/c neither can be beyond any doubt counted on to perform as they were expected to. Best being perhaps just one more concuss away from a premature retirement, and Leshoure a huge ? mark as to when and especially IF he can begin to practice after rehabbing from ripping up his achilles tendon, and considering the type/style of position he was to perform in (power runner) he might not ever return to being even close to whatever to his pre-injury potential would have been if he ever can at all.

Them's the Lions (bad) breaks, and IMO, the unsettled situation at RB (Kevin Smith notwithstanding) might continue to affect their draft-day AND trade decisions for not only this off-season, but also maybe the next year as well.

Fucking domino effect, b/c the Lions LOST some picks as well, and the still-lingering remnants of Matt "Millions" poisonous presence as Lions GM for almost an entire decade.

Yeah, it seems like RB is to Mayhew what WR was to Millen...only Mayhew has yet to draft his CJ. :(

Ideally, we would find at least one starting CB in free agency. Rogers and Finnegan make the most sense - Rogers because he's an elite cover guy, Finnegan because he's ideal for our scheme. We need to re-sign Tulloch at the very least and Houston is still a good #2 corner and should be retained at a reasonable price.

As for the draft, I think it needs to be as much O-line as possible unless someone at S/CB falls way past their expected slot. The top tackles are probably off the board at our pick, so someone like DeCastro, Glenn, or Kontz would be ideal for kicking Peterman or Raiola out of the starting lineup. Sanders might be graded out high enough as well, but I expect one of the interior guys to be the better value (other options would be if Barron or Kirkpatrick fall - I'm not high on the next level of DBs). Second round should be same as the first, best O-lineman (Adcock, Adams, Jones) or DB if one of the late first CBs fall (Jenkins, Dennard, maybe Boykin who can double as returner).

Rogers will be slapped with the tag, and we couldn't afford him anyways. Finnegan is certainly possible if they can get him at a reasonable price.

Throw in some athletic DEs if Avril is not retained, and don't count out LB.

I guess I wouldn't count out LB completely, but Levy-Tulloch-Durant is a pretty good set. The LBs in FA wouldn't be an upgrade in most cases outside of someone like Lofton (who is going to cost too much). Now, if we wanted to really make a big splash (even if it isn't a huge area of need), we could try pursuing Mario Williams. Obviously it would take a gigantic investment, but we are also talking about a DE (against the pass AND run) as good as anyone - basically a younger Julius Peppers.

I don't actually see that happening, but it would continue the trend of going for the best front 4 and letting the rest sort itself out.

The only problem with this logic was watched as we played the Saints. A monstrous defensive line can be offset by referees not calling holding penalties. The NFL still has too much control over our destiny to win a SB! We need some DBs. Mario Williams would be a nasty addition to the line though. Not going to happen but what a nightmare next to Suh, Fairley and eventually LoJack. LoJack will have a big year next year if Avril goes elsewhere as I suspect. Unfortunately I believe LoJacks contract runs up after next year along with many other players. Next offseason we are going to be dishing out some money and really need the cap to make a jump...

Actually I was talking about the draft. I agree that they won't pursue one if FA.

Finnegan would be huge, if he hits the market Schwartz needs to make that house call. No joking around either, that needs to happen.

He'll hit the open market. Tennessee has their young corners.

Well, let's see...for me this off season is gonna include Michigan basketball and hockey with a little of the ladies softball thrown in, Red Wings hockey (Pistons too even though they're gonna be pretty bad) then Tiger baseball, with a little bit of golf and the tennis grand slam events thrown in...
...and of course, listen to the asshole politicians and try to get a chuckle out of their bullshit...

Workout, work a little bit (as little as possible) and maybe get laid now and then.

That's about it.

For your benefit I FIFY.

Only offseason prediction I have at this point is that the Lions go after Cortland Finnegan. Aside from that, I don't see many big moves happening at all, unless they decide it's time to move Backus, and then a run at a LT may be in line. The draft is where most of the action will take place.

Finnegan said today he would love to reunite with Fisher in St Louis.

sucks Fisher had to come back this year....a couple of those Titan FAs would be worth poaching.

Finnegan has recently been asking Tulloch how Detroit has treated him, including tweeting something to that affect.
