Get StartedEh, it's still a free country.
People used to get all over Magglio for supporting Hugo Chavez too, even though it was no worse than an American supporting GWB.
Really, who gives a shit what they say, all that matters in baseball is the on-field product.
It's a complete joke to suspend him for those comments.
You gotta take into account Miami's HUGE Cuban population and how they react to this too though, thats why Miami suspended him. They cant take any chance of making it look like they're ok with the comments or ok with Castro by not punishing him, and there are still some Cuban-American groups boycotting them till he gets fired. They really, really dont like Castro.
Well that ends it then.
I wasnt saying it was right, I was just saying that that is the reason they did that and that I can understand it as well.A team should never make decisions based on appeasing the fanbase.
So anything goes? Have Bud Selig pull a John Rocker? As usual people misunderstand freedom of speech..
But a suspension is warranted. Free country or not, example - LeShoure is free to smoke weed. Roger is free to suspend him..
Schott got suspended in the 90s for yapping about Hitler....there are just some subjects that are just plain off limits in the USA and while you can plead free speech all day in the end it is a team ownership decision....
maybe you should try walking around your office, saying how great you think Tim McVeigh was or the 911 jet pilots were and how much you admire their work....betcha get called into the bosses office pretty quick.
Marge Schott was advocating a hate crime and the extermination of a race, when she said Hitler had the right idea. Apples and Oranges.
And if I worked in an office, and said those things, nothing could happen. If they tried to discipline me at all or terminate my employment, I'd have their asses in court faster than you could say "1st Amendment".
You can do better then that Mitch.
This was a BS move, Ozzie is not running for public office, he should not have to pander his opinion to the public.
I don't get the misunderstanding Freedom of Speech part though, seems people only believe in it when they agree with whats being expressed.
