Ozzie Gets 5 Game Suspension

Schott got suspended in the 90s for yapping about Hitler....there are just some subjects that are just plain off limits in the USA and while you can plead free speech all day in the end it is a team ownership decision....

maybe you should try walking around your office, saying how great you think Tim McVeigh was or the 911 jet pilots were and how much you admire their work....betcha get called into the bosses office pretty quick.

If Guillen was managing any other team nothing would happen, nobody would care.

Well to be clear, I don't love Castro.

I just don't think that someone's political views (that's really what this boils down to) should affect his job.

But the boss man in Florida is trying to get people to his ballpark and buy tickets, and if he has to run public spectacle with Muhammad Ali, and slap Ozzie for pissing off the Cuban population, he'll do whatever he thinks will put asses in the seats.

I just don't happen to agree with it.

exactly....he has said many times he supports Chavez and considers him a friend and nobody really cared....point is when you're in South Florida and wade into politics especially cuban politics....tread lightly.

One wonders if five games is enough to appease the outraged, or is it merely a perfunctory punishment to demonstrate "concern" for the offended. Why not fire his ass? Wait, because then the Marlins would have to still pay his contract, so, once again, money trumps principle.

Five games is such a convenient, off-the-shelf penalty. Everybody wins, even Castro. Which is why Guillen either should have been shitcanned or retained and let to fix the situation on his own, with assistance from the team if necessary.

Notice that Bud Selig issued no personal contempt for Castro or for his regime, in his official "denunciation" of Guillen, nor has he ever done so. I remind all that Selig once sat with Castro at a baseball game IN CUBA in 1999.

You gotta take into account Miami's HUGE Cuban population and how they react to this too though, thats why Miami suspended him. They cant take any chance of making it look like they're ok with the comments or ok with Castro by not punishing him, and there are still some Cuban-American groups boycotting them till he gets fired. They really, really dont like Castro.

Partly true. Thing is, I'm in full agreement with the Cuban's of Miami. I mean, I watch Wilbon & Kornhickle say dumb things in also mentioning Miami's Cubans complaints vis-a-vis Castro. But one must consider that many of us also despise what Fidel & Co have done to any possible freedom for the Cuban people. I need not be black to hate racism. I need not be a Jew to be against those who are anti Semitic. Fact is, I fought against Communism many years ago and continue the fight today.

OK, back to the Tigers: Go Detroit!

It's what happens when you hire a jackass. You get jackass comments.....that's it, that's all.

Ozzie may need a bulletproof limo before and after home games this season.
Bar included -- mandatory per Mr. Guillen

He might like that. Park at the stadium and never leave the limo until game time. Get drunk as much as he wants.
