Penn State Kickoff - TBD Question

All I know is that we will be in the Golf Course before the sun rises and partying all day until the 3:45pm kickoff vs psu!

GO BLUE!!

(Where is the Breeder's Cup ....Santa Anita?)

It?s at Churchill Downs this year-it?s about a 4 1/2 hour drive from Toledo.

It is at Santa Anita sometimes.

It?s on NBC, so if you bring a little portable TV with an antenna, You could watch it from the golf course

It would be cool to get there someday. I’ve been to Santa Anita Park a number of times, and while I’m sure that venue it’s self is not as cool as Churchel downs, there are very few sporting venues-one of them is the Rose Bowl what the heck-that have the spectacular background of the San Gabriel Mountains.

I've been to the Kentucky Derby Museum, but that was as close as I got. We got there later than we'd originally planned, only to find out that the last tour of the track for the day had started only minutes before we got there. That was only one of many "d'oh!" moments that occurred on that trip.

Santa Anita has quite the impressive backdrop, but I'd like to see Del Mar, aka "where the turf meets the surf."

Also, my inner history buff hates what became of Hollywood Park.

Vic, who is on this thread, has posted on this board about having gone to the races at Delmar at least once.

I?ve only seen the track from the freeway driving down to San Diego.

I did go see the first round of the U.S. Open in La Jolla, maybe 10 years ago, it was the final major that Tiger Woods has one so far in his career.

That was pretty cool.

One of the many items on my bucket list is to visit some of the major racetracks in the U.S. (Belmont, Pimlico, Saratoga, Monmouth, Keeneland, Del Mar, etc.). So far the only racetracks I've been to were harness racing ones, which is not my favorite type of horse racing (although I do miss the old Raceway Park that was here in Toledo).

I thought about making a bucket list once, but decided not to.

I wasn't sure what to shoot for.

i thought about maybe aiming to reach the highest point in all 50 states, but about a half dozen of them require actual mountain climbing, like up vertical rocks, so I decided that was out.

Maybe I'll just try to go to all 50 states. I'm almost halfway there.

or all 14 Big Ten stadiums.

I'm with you on the last two things, except I've been to fewer than half the states so far. I don't get out as much as I'd like to, sadly.

Yeah, I've been to the Races at Del Mar 4-5 times now, a few times on opening day and once on closing day. Quite a scene - one year I walked with about $1200 in proceeds, completely by luck.

I just got to wondering, why have you never gone to the Derby? It?s at Churchel Downs every year.

For a number of years I?ve thought about getting out to the Santa Anita Derby but when spring comes I have always managed to forget about it until it?s over.

I?m definitely going to make a point to circle it on my calendar for this upcoming spring. Earlier this year, it was won by a little horse name Justify.

We came very close to going to the Derby in 2004. My mother wrote to them to get tickets (that's how you had to do it then; not sure about now). Their response was basically, "yes, you can have tickets. . .after you pay us a buttload of money." We couldn't pay them a buttload of money by the time they wanted it, so we didn't go. In hindsight it was probably good that we didn't, since a violent storm blew through the area on race day.

Now that I have a steady job I was able to cough up a buttload of money for Breeders' Cup tickets. The Triple Crown races are still on my bucket list, however.

When they announce the game to be in the 3:30 timeslot, it rarely kicks off at exactly 3:30.

I.E. to account for the spillover from the noon game, no doubt. It's just that this is the first time I recall seeing a start time other than the usual noon, 3:30, 7:00/7:30, etc.

I'm just glad it isn't a night game and that because of that, I get to go ...the 3:45pm kick, IMO, is just 15 more minutes to tailgate!!

I thnk michigan only ants to have ine night game at home each year so once wisky became night game tht pretty much ensured psu would be 3:30 game

Santa anita was nice setting. I lived in arcadia for a few years
