I have watched all three games thus far and can't recall ever seeing him on the field.
Am I wrong or has he done absolutely nothing so far?

It's not like he has CJ status and is just waiting till the games count.

He's definitely been playing, but he's used a lot more as a blocking tight end since we have both Ebron and Fauria to catch the ball. That's why you're rarely hearing his name.

$4M/ year blocking TE. Great.

Trade his ass to the first team this year that loses their TE. Any pick would be worth it.

Real friendly deal. Great blocker and insurance if Fauria or Ebron go down in the passing game.

And he's ZERO against the cap next year if let go. Not a bad contract at all.

I get that. I guess what I was getting at was $4M gets a solid #2 or good #3 CB right now.....I'd rather have that than TE insurance.

Great blocker, I guess you missed the entire 2013 season. Pettigrew wasn't great at anything last year, in-fact at best he was a below average blocker..

I didn't miss anything, troll. Pettigrew is considered one of the best blocking TES in the game. He may have had a weak season, but he's always been a great blocker most of his career.

And i'm not the biggest Pettigrew fan, but he cleaned up his drops and fumbles last year too. Get your facts straight.

I was nailed to a cross this offseason when I suggested we spend what little fa money we had on the defense.

Tony I have to be honest, I have been googling the shit out of "best NFL blocking tight ends," and not a single list or report I've seen has had Pettigrew on it. I think calling him one of the best blocking TEs in the NFL is a reach.

Dont waste your time. Pettigrew is a below average TE. He is an average blocker, meaning good because most TE in today's offensive schemes don't do it. He is not special in anyway other than athletically. Another Lion with tons of talent and nothing to show for it. Terrible hands.

I am an extremely vocal Pettigrew hater. In fact, I might just be the biggest hater of Droptimus Prime on this whole board.

And even I will tell you Pettigrew is one of the better blocking TEs in the league. Tony is 100% right here, the man can flat out block. If he could flat out catch, I wouldn't want to gauge my eyes out with a butter knife every time he took the field.

But, that truly doesn't justify his place on this roster to me. You want a blocking TE? We had Michael Williams who blocks well enough to compete for an O-line spot, and used to be a TE. We didn't need to re-sign this POS, we had someone who could block well enough to play Tackle already.

Waste of 3.5M in cap space in my opinion. Anything more than 500K for Droptimus Prime is throwing bad money after good on a bust.

But yes, he can block better than most at his position. He can also apparently block the ball from reaching his grasp.

Well, I differ..as a pass block he's um not good. Average maybe but no one near one of the best. The site that some people seem to gravitate to, PFF, has him no where near great..

Every list that showed the best pass block TEs didn't have Pettigrew in the top 10. Probably an elite run blocker. But I think there's a bit of overhype here.

Like i said, i'm not a big fan of Pettigrew, but his strength was his blocking coming out of college. I remember some reports calling him a borderline OT at one point. Decent safety blanket for Staff. His contract is very friendly and he shouldn't hurt the team in any way in 2014. His main job is blocking and it's his strength. Focus on your strengths instead of trying to turn him into a receiving threat. That's what Ebron and Fauria are here for....

Pettigrew is on a team friendly deal and can be a productive player. And he is a good blocker overall in his career and was good in pass pro last year. Run blocking can get back to old form.

2.2 million cap number this year.
