Picked on white guy ideas

You stand up guys for a trump are pretty funny . I'm not waving the confederate flag of hate. I'm not using any type of violent protesting and I have said all such protesting by either side OF Any TYPE should be punished!!!!!
But it is pretty laughable that anyone would come on here in defense these appointments that Trump is doing with a straight face. These random hate crimes have been imbolden by the harbinger of hate himself Donald ( Orange Jesus ) Trump. Watching that Hypocritical Paul Ryan pull out his knee pads today to Trump would be funny but he dosent give a shit about the American people.

Hack I hope you are right that these are just one offs as you say but with the people Trump is appointing I doubt things will cool off very soon. Appointing Steve Bannon really does not look great. But then Trump has Mike Pence running transition team so I guess that is all we need to know for what is coming.

Kkk planned Rally in North Carolina for Trump's victory

Confederate flag shock's viewers at veteran days parade .

are we even talking about the appointments? has someone defended any of them? or is this just another unhinged rant?

you are aware that Trump and every single Republican has denounced the KKK endorsement, right? would you like to make an over/under market on how many people show up to that KKK rally in NC - in support, not counting protestors? I will bet it will be on the order of .0001x the size of the smallest of the anti-Trump "rallies"

So you are ok with Steve Bannon? OK I guess I know we're you stand.. whatever. Keep deflecting the forces of hate . It's something you are great at.
I have already denounced any type of VIOLENT anti trump protesters. Let's get this right . One is protesting because almost 700,000 more people voted Clinton and they feel disenfranchised.. so tell me what are those others protesting that are so small as you say? Have fun with your new president , and his pathetic far right team.

then that sorta disproves the left's narrative about rampant racism because the noise they're making is barely audible.

I think it takes a real dim view of humanity to point to half the nation and claim that racism is one of their big motivators.

LOL, didn't I just say nobody was defending his appointment? How could that be your takeaway? You don't need to answer that, it was a rhetorical question, I know how. By the way, I can't stand Steve Bannon for what he did to Breitbart - it was once a great site for conservative journalism and editorial content but after Andrew died and Steve Bannon was hired, it went downhill in a hurry. He destroyed Breitbart's legacy and it's a real shame.

Next, I am deflecting hate - you probably meant "projecting" hate, but you would have been wrong because I'm not hateful.

I don't know what those other protesters are protesting - you didn't mention other protests, you talked about a Klan rally, not a protest. I said that rally and the Klan have been roundly denounced by all Republicans, including Trump. I also made the point that they are a tiny group of nut jobs that don't have any support outside their own tiny circle. It's absurd to conflate a tiny group of unaffiliated, unsupported nut jobs with thousands and thousands of protesters across the country, many of them spewing hate and committing violence and vandalism. One group is flatly rejected by both parties, the other is encouraged, aided and in some cases funded by a national political party - the Democrats.

agreed and yet it's a major theme of the DNC as well as large portions of the media and the electorate.

Which "side" are you saying this about? Could be both for all I can tell.

That "you're all racists" shoe seems to fit better on overwhelmingly more Democrat feet right now.

But Republicans match them in having dim views for other reasons.

The next four years are going to be ugly.

I didn't think our international reputation could get harmed worse than it was by Bush's cowboy-wannabe antics, but this is a whole new level of embarrassment.

Embarrassment is a personal feeling. Do you really think the half (give or take a few hundred thousand) that voted for Trump is embarrassed?

Reputation determined by people/countries you identify with could be subject to the same thing. Certainly you would hope and prefer that all countries that you would consider allies of America, would say they respect and support the US - but seriously, how much worse can it really get - I don't think the US gets much respect right now?

. . . and realistically, how does that reputation affect your daily life? I know, just another club one can use to bash someone you disagree with, but beyond that, if you live and work in the US, how is it going to affect you?

American pride matters to me!

American pride matters to me!

American pride matters to me too, but it comes in many forms. Some might be proud of their country that they went in and kicked those Arabs back to Kuwait. Others may have been embarrassed.

. . . and you don't get off that easy. Why does American pride matter to you?

Not everything this country does is going to make you proud, quite the contrary, but you can tell our reputation by how one is treated by the people of another country when you visit.

Not sure what it is, but you guys put me in story mode. I did 8 months over the course of several years in China (installing a baggage handling system). The people I met, who were not part of the government, were extremely nice people and very friendly. We had disagreements over things like the "One China" tenet, but for the most part, I made some lasting friends that I still communicate with. That really isn't all of the story - I was there when the US bombed their embassy in Yugoslavia. None of the people who knew me blamed me for anything. They didn't blame the American people, they blamed our government. I still got put on a plane shortly thereafter due to the protests, but I didn't feel great hostility from the people who knew us, towards me or any of the other people there on assignment.

The point is, I felt very embarrassed at our government, but my pride in being American never waned. I was still able to think of all the good things our country continues to do for people in need. That is why I asked you why.

Being embarrassed that your president is probably a buffoon, to me, is small potatoes. The proof is in how the actions actually taken get perceived, not how some media outlet feels before anything has happened.

Last but not least, how does having pride in America affect your daily life?

I still think America is the greatest force for positive progress in the world. I think the fact that the Cold war stayed cold is nothing short of amazing. I think today's population problems exist in part because of the progress we made on farming technology; and starvation is one of the great forces of suffering on Earth. I think our popular media has given a large part of the world a chance to look at our nation beyond our leaders, which probably plays a big role in why so many people are friendly to us even if they hate our government, and I think it's not much of a jump to go from that thought to thinking it about other countries. I think you could write a book about the impact of other American technologies and America's role in the information age and medicine. And I think we will play a big role in fixing climate change issues and going to other planets.

...and I feel like I play a teeny tiny part in that.

edit: just not when I'm posting on message boards.

the enmity between those of us who supported Sanders, and Hillary supporters in the primary was particularly pointed in the week following the election.

The idea that more Americans are now racist, or more racists voted in this election was mostly floated by Clinton's camp & Clinton staffers. It's a way to deflect the blame from running an incompetent campaign, and being wholly in the tank for an awful candidate. Beating Trump should've been a fucking uncontested layup for them, and they bricked it off the rIm.

it's been pointed out repeatedly though that Trump won states & counties that went for Obama twice.

While undoubtedly race and racism played a role in Trump's victory and should not be downplayed or forgotten going forward (and certainly not normalized) any competent candidate could've overcome that to beat him like a drum. He was and is a complete fraud & a dipshit, not presidential material. not even by "figurehead" standards.

Well, I have a fair amount of friends and acquaintances from other countries. and my wife and in-laws are foreign born (wife is now a citizen & voted in her first election last week). so there's that. I know I'm not typical in this regard.

kinda makes it tough to argue America is exceptional, a shining beacon of democracy, and Americans are intelligent when we elect a fucking charlatan, a fucking failed real estate-developer-turned-reality-TV star, and huckster to lead our country. a guy who launched his campaign by bashing particular ethnic and racial groups, immigrants to this country, and pushing xenophobia and nationalism in his rhetoric. It's fucking small-minded, regressive racism. And even acknowledging that's not the only reason he won, it's a very visible reason, and it's one that people around the world focus on.

by far most of the credit for that should go to our civilian leadership. if the Pentagon was in charge, the Earth would be a radiocative wasteland right now. I've read some histories of the Cuban Missile Crisis... suffice to say Dr. Strangelove was not that far off.

and an equal, if not greater share of the credit goes to the USSR. also look up a guy named Vasili Arkhipov.

I was pretty shocked as well when I read stories of the conduct and strategies pushed by psychopaths Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld during the 80's. after almost a decade of reducing tensions and rapproachment, they decided to threaten Russia and foster a casual attitude toward nuclear war. to an impartial observer I don't think we'd come out of the Cold War looking like the cooler heads.

That's the guy that just guessed that the computers had to be wrong, right?

no, that was a different guy.

this guy was the only officer on a soviet sub in the permiter of the quarantine around Cuba, who refused to fire a nuclear torpedo at the USN destroyers depth charging them. according to the record, the depth charges weren't live, but of course, the navy didn't tell the Russians that.

the captain and the soviet commisar on the sub both favored retaliating in accordance to their orders to fire if fired upon. that's how close we came.
