Pistons draft SF Stanley Johnson and SG Darrun Hilliard III

theres no reason to play veterans over young developing players at this point in detroits rebuild.

SVG believes he can win something now while developing for the future at the same time. Rather than the tank-to-win rebuild, he's trying to stay competitive until he can find a star to take the team to the next step. Drummond might ultimately be that star (or hell even Johnson). But SVG does NOT subscribe to the idea that teams should give up their present (playing rookies who are going to be bad early) in order to have a future.

Oh i get it. ...which is why we pick at 8 every year.

I didn't say it was a good plan, but that is the plan. Also, SVG has only been around one year, and without the Jennings injury may have been a playoff team. When the plan fails again next year (as I expect), then at least we can put the blame on him. So far, picking at 8 every year was someone else's bad management.

SVG has had no problem letting his young guys develop as long as they play hard. Now we did show we could actually win some games after our horrible start to the year last year. So I really have no problem with him wanting to ease in the rookie. But SVG also isn't going to stress like previous coaches did about young guys shooting the ball. He let's his players play. Anyone who actually watched last year could tell that about him. So I don't think developing stanley johnson is going to be a problem, as long as Stanley actually turns out to be a player.
