Assuming we can set this up because of our lead what should it look like? Obviously JV starts game 1. Then what, Scherzer or Fister as the 2? Do we use Porcello at all, or just go 3-man? Penny won't be used, and if he is Leyland needs to pack his bags.

Don't be surprised if Penny gets the 4th spot over Porcello, they're about equal as far as hot and cold go, and Penny has experience, Leyland seems like the type to go with that.

Well, I'd be lying if I told you I have an idea what Leyland would do. He just might start Penny in game 2 because he's a vet and has pitched in a WS.

But I like Fister 2 and Scherzer 3. Breaks up JV, hard thrower, and Scherzer, good hard thrower himself by putting Fister at 2.

Porcello did pitch game 163, though.

That was a rest issue, he was the best option because JV could not go.

Depends on if the Tigers get home field advantage. Fister should pitch in either Fenway or Yankee Stadium. Scherzer should pitch at Comerica.

I was thinking the same thing, but Fister has really good numbers at Comerica.

And Scherzer has really bad numbers on the road.

You want the groundball pitcher at Fenway or YS. Either team will load up on LHB and you want nothing to do with RF in either stadium

IDK, I just dont see Leyland starting Penny in the Playoffs period. Hopefully anyway. just too risky. He has an ERA over 10 vs NY this year. He hasnt faced Bos this year, but they have the better offense, stats wise..... Id go JV, Fister, Max. But if Porcello can finish hot, I wouldnt be opposed to switching him with Max.

I don't either, regards to Penny, but this is Leyland we're talking about.

This.
I agree with IHBE for Scherzer starting at Comerica whether a game 2, or game 3 depending on home field advantage.

Agreed.

A FB pitcher like Scherzer would be better served pitching in Copa than either YSII or Fenway.

I will be surprised if Leyland does not go with a 4-man rotation. I'd rather see a 3 man in the ALDS though. JV, Fister, then Scherzer.

Yes, there won;t be a 5th starter in the playoffs, you don't need more then 3 really when you account for travel days.

If for some reason they decide to go with a 4 man rotation, the 4th man whoever it is is shaky.

Everyone's hoping it's not Penny, but forgetting that before this last start Porcello was not any better.

It's probably going to come down to whoever is better their last 2 starts.

Other teams have gone 4-man in the best of 5. I just think that wastes JV and Fister.

I mean Fister. JV would get 2 starts in a 5 game series.

I get what your guys' point is, but if Max starts game 2, that would also, set him up for game 5 instead of Fister. I'd rather have Fister pitching game 5 than Scherzer. Also, at this point I feel like we just have to win 1 game without JV on the mound, and Fister's numbers at Copa are very good, so far.

Wut? Verlander would be pitching Game 5 regardless

Game 1 Verlander
Game 2 Scherzer/Fister

Game 3 Fister/Scherzer
Game 4 Porcello

Game 5 Verlander

Porcello is just a better pitcher than Penny, and there is a chance of him having a quality start.

Whereas Brad Penny sucks, has a WHIP of 1.5 with 64 Ks to 54 BB.
