Playoff picture

If they were to make the playoffs after starting 1-7 it would say tons about the character of the players.

It would be just our luck to win out and miss the playoffs somehow. Or need that win in our last game and screw it up. That being said I think we should beat all the rest of these teams.. I am still pissed it took lady ford to wake Caldwell's dumb ass up to fire Lombardi. Damm the NFL is so bad this year and at 4-7 so are we.. we have a shot.. I guess that is all we can hope for after the disgusting 1-7 start.

Honestly, I'm not so sure how much that helped (Lombardi). 2 of the 3 games the offense only scored 18 points each. The defense is what turned up their play.

Tony, Inkfreq, and everyone else I know and have posted with for years since espn the early 2000's.

Going back to those espn days, and Monster's previous board, I always felt the Lions board could and would take care of itself. The guys who "Know" their football, were always able to explain to the other guys who didn't have their football smarts. and I fall into the latter category.

It is now 5 years? maybe a bit longer since those boards closed. When I was asked to become a mod, at first I felt a bit humbled/honored, that many of the posters wanted me the old guy to be a mod, and just keep any eye on things and ask someone every so often to 'settle down'.

In these past several years, I can count on one hand the times I gave someone an infraction.
Those times the poster was given the infraction, I just thought that would be enough to make the poster feel a bit ashamed and maybe not get into it heatedly with some other poster. as it can and does go off topic and into a pissing contest.
Not once since I have been a mod, did I personally give someone a time off ban until today.
I have always thought we post with each other almost every day, every week, year after year. When you have had that type of argument, Human nature usually makes a person resent even seeing the poster in the forum and their posts.
and it can get ugly, I have said just try to get along or don't respond to the poster.

The previous time this poster was given his 2 week ban, by another mod, I gave my opinion, and that is, when one poster, constantly upsets so many in one forum, and continues to do that, despite repeated pleas to stop, that is when a timeout ban is needed.

I wanted to explain my thoughts on this situation. I had seen and read it ongoing for a very long time. I thought this too would settle down, or the mods who spend more time on the Lions board than I have until recent weeks would handle it if necessary.
That is no slight on any other mod. Up until recently when it was written about by more posters. I decided I would deal with it.
Thanks guys, KC Ron.

I don't think you even need to explain KC. The mods on this board do an incredible job. They are never too quick to pull the trigger on someone, and I have never seen someone get popped on here just for having a different opinion.

LKP will undoubtedly argue that he was just voicing a different opinion. But the reality is, his crap becomes a negative disruption to the entire board. The two weeks he was gone, conversations didn't just stay on topic, they improved. People were able to discuss sports, rather than being interrupted every third post with idiocy.

If anyone sees your decision to drop his ass out for a while again as a "personal" thing, I don't think they fully comprehend the situation.

You guys all do a great job running a nuthouse full of the DSF Irregulars. I don't think a nun could question your patience just knowing that. I know I sure don't.

Well Seattle won. That's a double whammy. Which means we need 3 more wins than Seattle to pass them. Probably unlikely. If you're thinking Lions playoffs this hurt the worse.

I for one have never minded LKP and his schtick, but it can get old and has gotten under quite a few people's skin. He should know he's on thinner ice than usual and KC tried to sheppard him off it. He decided to jump up and down.

No to clarify my point, which was to a large degree already summed up by Ink, it's hard to beat teams in your own division twice, there is always a trap game you don't see as well. The margin for error is a bit too tight and I do t think we will need to be counting out the playoff scenarios on our fingers this year. I do hope though that they keep playing like this right up to the last game. It is these types of seasons that begin a culture shift and I for one are very optimistic heading into our future.

Absolutely. I promise you, before it's said and done, the 49'ers are going to ruin someone's playoff hopes. We're on their schedule, could very well be us.

But, given the way this season started, I'm encouraged just to see the offense scoring some points, and things starting to gel.

We have a new president I have a lot of confidence in.

We have Ernie Accorsi helping us pick the next GM.

Cooter is improving the offense.

Austin is still keeping the defense going. He's earned a little respect from me given what their doing and who they are doing it with.

Lots of reasons to think this is something we can build on, maybe for the first time in my lifetimes we have something solid, rather than a glass floor.

Just to be fair, and be like me (I can't help it), in 3 games, offense good at only one. Defense wins at GB and vs Oakland.

I've maintained for over a year now that LKP posts primarily to get under peoples skin and he does so in such a way to try and toe the line between being a cartoon troll like character vs. a sane knowledgeable football poster. He is actually quite skilled at this as laughable as it seems. I'm happy he is finally getting some comeuppance as he rightfully deserves it. Hopefully he decides to stick with real football talk, because he can actually be good at it when he tries.

Back to the topic at hand. There's just way too many obstacles for me to even get thinking about playoffs yet. We need to win the next 2 games before I even begin to get excited.

A playoff run would be nice to see but it requires so much help from other teams its unlikely. (The bs loss to Seattle will end up costing us). I do however believe that if this team puts together a 7-9 to 9-7 season Caldwell and the staff has probably earned another season. The offense is improving under cooter, the defense has adjust to its new personnel and improved.

Also Lombardi gave us ebron. He's the worst. I really dislike him.

No doubt at all. Defense was the key to those two games. Philly was just a blowout against an ugly team.

But, the defense is coming together. The O-Line blocked better in all three of those wins, and that gave Stafford breathing room. He made the most of it, and you can see he's starting to see the ghosts less and less.

The QB has got to be confident in his line, and that confidence eroded quickly. Cooter has them working better as an overall unit, and the play has improved.

We're not at 2011 standards, but we're trending in the right direction.

Looking at the two wild card teams, GB 7-4 and Seattle 6-5 (we lost to them), I don't see a way we pass them.

Yeah it looks like both Seattle and GB should have no problem getting to 9 wins sadly..

Probably have the easier schedule, okay maybe Chicago, but 3 road games. It's really funny that our lone win on the road is at GB. That's actually kind of hilarious.

There are 6 teams (not including the division winners) with better records than the Lions and 3 more teams that have the same record. I say they have about a 2% chance to make it.

Playoff predictor had us at 3.5% before yesterday's games when all the teams we're chasing lost beside Seattle. I'm sure that percentage went up a couple more points. The Seattle loss may be the game that haunts us as we may catch them to tie at best but will lose out due to the tie breaker. Steelers defense is such a disappointment. They really should've won yesterday but their D backs completely forgot how to tackle

Frustratingly Seattle continues to get lucky breaks time and time again.. Anyway we have a slim shot i guess. I just want us to beat the Packers again so we can watch that fan base continue to explode..

Does Chicago really not have any road games left? How is that possible.

We need to win out its our only chance fortunately a lot of those teams ahead of us are really struggling. I'd imagine the wildcards would end up as gb and Seattle both are in the spot now and have a recent history of playoffs where we have a long history of screwing it up. But all we can do is keep winning and our schedule makes that possible. The toughest game is this week then it's just about continuing to play well. Every game is a playoff game for the rest of the year.

sorry i will fix it..

Hard to believe after that disaster in London that we're talking about playoffs at all. This is indeed a strange, unpredictable league. Where a string of 3 wins can change the landscape so drastically.
