Playoff streak moves on

Good game vs Habs, good to get the point. Obviously a win woukd have been better, but Montreal wasn't laying down like the Rangers did since they too bad something to play for in terms of position.

I love that the streak continues, but unless one of the goalies steps up, it's going to be a quick exit for the Wings. Howard cannot play like he did tonight in the playoffs and expect to win.

24 years is impressive! That said, the NHL & NBA are a joke for having 16 of 30 teams making the playoffs.

It's fine. If you make less teams or more teams get in, I won't enjoy it as much. There's no way to change it.

NBA I agree with. NHL however you see countless low seeds make runs. In the NBA you might as well have the top 12 teams in the NBA make it. Like top 12 regardless of conference. That way you know the 4 good teams can get down to business faster

@CraigCustance: ESPN Nice little piece

The NHL has been in full-on parity mode for years now. Dynasties are dead. Watching the Kings struggle as much as they have, just one season removed from a Stanley Cup, proves just how hard it is to win consistently in the today's NHL. That makes every year the Detroit Red Wings extend their playoff streak more impressive than the last. With the point they earned in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens, combined with the Bruins' loss, the Wings clinched a playoff berth. It wasn't easy, but they'll take it, and it's their 24th consecutive postseason, something it's hard to imagine any NHL team doing again barring drastic rule changes. It spans eras from Steve Yzerman to Nicklas Lidstrom to Henrik Zetterberg, and the unity and quality of people from ownership through management to those behind the bench to the players who pass down an expectation of greatness, keep it going year after year. Sure, this Red Wings team has questions come playoff time, but getting in for the 24th consecutive time is an amazing accomplishment.

Amazing how Ottawa now controls its own destiny.. Just a point in Philadelphia gets them in.

20-3-3 last 26 is a wow.. That is why the Rangers should have played harder to knock them out.. Their new goalie is 19-1 :/

Ottawa is playing the best hockey in the league right now. I would put money on them to knock whoever it is they wind u playing out. All I know is it won't be the Wings which is great news. Wings need to try for some points against Carolina to avoid the Rangers.

One point tomorrow guarantees a meeting with Tampa Bay. A loss could mean the Rangers or Canadiens.

I would love to see Ottawa defeat NYR in R1. That would be funny as anything I've seen in a long time.

But that's probably because I've met too many asshole Ranger fans since moving to Brooklyn.
