Playoff thread

Pretty much over by halftime. If ND didn’t chew up 9 mins on the opening drive it probably would have been a 3 score game.

ND needs to join a conference or they need to make it harder for independents to make the playoff.

Now buckeyes trying to give it away. Kill a drive with a penalty, then extend ND drive with a penalty then cough up a fumble. Now they’re nursing the lead playing prevent defense to see if ND can catch up.

Congrats OSU boosters. You bought yourself a championship for $20MM.

And got rumors planted in the media each week about your last two opponents' coaches being considered for NFL jobs to try to create distractions for them - which probably didn't matter given the results on the field.

At least they weren't caught cheating

What do you mean they didn't matter? Did you see those games? Obviously, the propaganda campaign had a HUGE impact, which is good because they probably spent more time planting stories than working on Xs & Os. I'm sure they're thankful they put in all that hard work in the rumor mill instead of wasting it in the weight room or watching film of their opponents.

At least Notre Dame came back a little bit to make the game somewhat interesting.

Having experienced all manners of determining a national champion, the one that still has the most interest and impact to me is the Mythical version that ended in 1997. BCS, 4-team playoff, 12-team playoff -- none of them compare to the New Year's Day bowl games for sheer gravitas.

It moved the "politics" of choosing a champion from after the games are played, to the playoff selection committee, which I think at least gives a more objective result. this year, anybody had any business complaining about being left out. They still did of course, but no reasonable people would agree with them.

12 is too many teams though. There are maybe 5-6 teams worthy of it each year. Certainly not more than 8. The seeding is stupid as well. Nobody outside the Big Ten or SEC really deserves a BYE... that's just how it is. Sorry Boise States of the world...

In college basketball it works because there's more parity throughout the sport, but there's just not in football.

Well, I guess that Coach will have to be the first African American coach to win the NC next year.
