Porcello trade scenarios?

Toronto? Lol. If they finish above 4th I'll be surprised. I'd put Dickey behind our top 4 starters. The Angels were a 3rd place team. Gained a big coke head bat but lost as well. Detroit is a better team than both.

They added Buehrle, Josh Johnson and Dickey. They also added Jose Reyes, Izturis (no big deal) and Melky Cabrera (no risk add). Encarnacion coming off a 42 HR year and Bautista will probably get back on PEDs and hit another 40. While I agree they are not an overwhelming favorite they did add some pretty good players. Last year I put some money on the Tigers to win the WS at 9-1 and they came up 4 games short. When I go to Vegas for the SB I will bet on them again....I hope I can get the current 10-1 odds.

Dickey is no guarantee. The guy was horrible his whole career until he pitched for the NYM. I expect him to pitch like shit again..

He also pitched well in interleague play but I just have a hunch Dickey won't pitch well. Even with all the new pieces, Toronto has to make up a lot of ground.

Mitch....In 2006, Dickey transformed himself from throwing conventional pitches to become a knuckle-ball pitcher, which he uses 80% of the time. He still can throw a 2 or 4 seam fastball in the mid 80s and has a decent change up.

Knuckle-ballers are hard to catch, hence why Josh Thole (L, 26) Mike Nickeas (R, 29) were also part of the trade. Together, they have caught 78 out of his last 91 GS.

That said, 2012 was a career year, and he probably will not duplicate anything close. He should however still be a good #2 or #3.

TOR's projected 2013 starters are probably not better than DET's projected starters, but it is close.

That I did not know. Somehow I always thought he was a knuckle baller. Any event I hope he doesn't pitch against us, Detroit teams always seem to struggle against a knuckle baller.

Today, when asked about Smyly in the bullpen, DD said that Smyly is a starter.
Oliver traded, Wilk to South Korea today, Crosby??

Porcello.....Rick's birthday is the 27th, and asking, maybe Rebbiv knows this, does trading before or after a birthday have any meaning/significance? or it doesn't matter all in the same year?

None at all.

6 of the 20 pitchers on the 40-man roster are lefties:

Below

Coke

Crosby

Downs

Lobstein

Smyly

If Lobstein stays, then there would be at least 3 lefties on the 25-man roster.

Crosby, Downs and Lobstien....that sounds like a law firm.

Wouldn't mind Gregerson and Denorfia for Porcello.

32-yr old, part-time, below average corner OFer (maybe a platoon at best) and a 28-yr old middle reliever, whose stats are skewed from a pitcher-friendly park.

Big time pass!

Good points. That's where I saw them, Denorfia platooning with Dirks and Gregerson as a 7th inning guy. They had Denorfia platooning with Venable and Gregerson was to be setting up Street in San Diego. Another thought I had because of the MLB rumor post was that Seattle during this offseason has shown interest in Porcello and Boesch. We could send them for Gutierrez, Pryor, Vincent Catricala and Brad Miller. FG could platoon with Dirks, Pryor as 7th inning guy and Catricala and Miller would be in Toledo in LF and SS/2B

Guiterrez and Pryor are worse than Denorfia and Gregerson, and still serve no purpose.

We have enough middle relievers. Period.

Last 3 years away

Boesch 68.24 RC/650 .249 BAVG .301 OBP .381 SLG .682 OPS 16.69 PA/BB

Guiterrez 65.95 RC/650 .248 BAVG .293 OBP .358 SLG .651 OPS 16.61 PA/BB

Guiterrez is way better than Boesch defensively, but other than that, you have the same hitter.

Last 3 years away

Peralta 75.98 RC/650 .258 BAVG .322 OBP .407 SLG .729 OPS 11.96 PA/BB

Hardy 62.20 RC/650 .241 BAVG .281 OBP .398 SLG .679 OPS 21.74 PA/BB

Hardy walks at the same rate as Delmon Young and grounds into just as many double plays.

UZR/150 Rankings last 3 years (22 MLB SS Qualify)

1. Barmes 13.6

2. Ryan 12.8

3. Hardy 11.1

4. Peralta 9.5

5. A. Ramirez 9.1

6. Tulowitzki 6.7

7. Rollins 6.0

8. Andrus 5.5

9. S. Drew 4.3

10. Pennington 4.1

From a value standpoint, other than Tulowitzki, none of these other SS are better than Peralta (offense + defense). The knock on Peralta has been his range, which effects Porcello the most. So why trade Porcello for a SS with range?

from what I can remember....Peralta is working out or going to, with Cabrera + a couple other players, Tigers or from other teams, down in Florida the off season.
We 'might be pleasantly surprised' next time we see Jhonny and his range,

Plus Peralta's ex-Tribe teammate and clubhouse Mr. Congeniality VMart will be back next season.

I don't mind Peralta. We've had people post a whole bunch of SS that we could sign or trade for and I'd take Jhonny P. Above all of them.

same. i dont really know why everyone hates him so much. he's not that bad.

I thought after the season about maybe we could get a SS but have come to realize we should be lucky we have Peralta because most SS suck.
