Position upgrades

What position need to be upgraded?

Obviously LG. But after that where do we go in the draft? I say DE. Jason Jones is a good rotational guy but I want a bigger impact from LDE. Next is SS, Ihedigbo isn't a star and he wants more money. See ya. Finally RB has to be upgraded. Joique doesn't strike fear in any defense.

Here is the current depth chart.

No positions need upgrades.

My true opinion is the Lions are a great team and you guys underrate them.

DT is a need. We have Ngata and a whole bunch of question marks.
CB is a need. Mathis is our #2 with a huge drop off to #3. Any injury to Slay or injury/decline in Mathis leaves us exposed. With drop off in D-line, secondary will need to step it up.
RB is a need. No need to explain

We have a Super Bowl caliber roster (other than LG which we will get easily even with Sims back).

They could upgrade the depth at CB, OT, RB (and the RB will have alot of touches) but we could win with the guys we have now. Waddle/Reiff/Lucas, Bell/Riddick, Slay/Mathis/Seisay/3 nickels, Dig/IAQ. Lions obviously can win with those guys. We won 11 with them last year.

From one playoff win in 57 years to SB champions. Yes, I believe.

Easiest position to upgrade would be LG. Likely upgrades will be targeted at LG, RT, DT, and CB. LG/RT could probably start right away if they are any good. DT might be able to start if Walker doesn't pan out. CB is truly depth, but there is a growing need with Mathis' age.

DE could be upgraded, but the need is low. WR3 could be upgraded, but again is low priority. RB could be upgraded, but getting an O-line is much, much more important. If we can put together a quality O-line, RB really takes care of itself.

Yeah, they are in the market for a flex TE/WR type guy that can stretch the field and drop passes. Anyone in the draft fill that bill?

OH I GOT IT! FUNCHESS! He'd be PERFECT.

We'll upgrade 3 positions and could add vet LG too. Or Barksdale at RT.

Then everyone will have to be queit about the depth because we'll be deeper at 4 positions. DE we are deep, LB we are deep, nickel we are deep, safety we are deep, TE we are deep.

DT depends on Reid and Jones rotating in.

Nobody likes our backup QBs but doubt they change that.

RB,CB, WR 3 (less of a need with Ebron), LG, Tackle. 3 of the 5 will be taken care of with Pick 23, Pick 54, Pick 88. A vet LG/RT is still possible. So maybe 4 of the 5 taken care of this week.

You'll have backup QB and one and maybe two more positions to bitch about in a week. That is a low number of backup positions to bitch about. I can't wait.

WR 3 depends on Fuller and Jones too.

I would imagine that even if we sign a veteran LG, we'll add one in the draft as well. The vets that are left out there are on the wrong end of 30 for the most part, which is a little long in the tooth if you want a top notch line.

Rule of 150 is simple: when the combined age of your offensive line reaches 150 years, they will not have a quality season. No line that has a total age of 150 has ever put together a top 15 season.

So you really want to keep your offensive linemen young and rotational.

Beyond that, I see us adding a DT, a RB, a WR, and a CB in no particular order. They will go out and get one of the undrafted free agents to bring in as a camp body at QB, and see if he flashes.

The Lions are in prime spot to move around a bit, trade back a little in a few rounds, and add a few picks, so a DE or a LB is not out of the question, nor is a safety, but probably not viewed as high priorities.

A few weeks ago I said I would be shocked if the Lions went Rb early, with either Melvin Gordon or Todd Gurley, but as much as I don't like it, I am starting to feel like I'd be shocked if they didn't.

They seem really high on both, and there are solid DTs and OLs in later rounds to be had that would suit them just as well. I'd rather see a top notch DT or OT in the first if one is available, like a La'el Collins or a DJ Humprhrie or an Malcom Brown, but when you can probably land a kid like Carl Davis or Mario Edwards, or even maybe a Laken Thomlinson in the 2nd round... they will upgrade your D-Line too.

RB almost looks like the best value pick and at a position of need in the 1st at this point, with Gurley being called the best prospect since AD and Melvin Gordon being heavily compared to Jamal Charles.

You won't get that kind of value in later rounds, so I would be surprised if they didn't.

1st round rbs are never a value pick imo....especially with a shitty oline like ours. Id love seeing mg3 in honalulu blue. Then hed average 3 ypc in our offense and id hate him and blame mayhew for trying to fix the run game for the 3rd time by drafting an early round rb without fixing the line first. Only that idiot wouldnt remember the first 2 times hes tried that. Best sucked ass at running the ball. Leshoure sucked at everything except getting caught smoking pot. Our line wpuld quickly turn mg3 to shit and itd just give me yet another reason to hate mayhew.

Ps...gurley wont even play next year.....which is just about the amount of value most of mayhews picks are worth.

He did very well at his medical re-checks. He's on pace to play, but may miss a couple of games early on.

They said the same thing about broyles. The kid busted his knee twice last year. Any team that plays him are morons. It's actually a dream scenerio for him to be drafted by us. ...we are the team that plays their 20 mil a year superstars with severely sprained ankles just so they can be a decoy and injure themselves more.

3 positions that need upgrading are DT, OL and RB. Top 3 draft picks i hope. Doesn't always work like that though.
I can still see a WR and DB in the mix there too...
