Prefer wins or top 10 pick?

Now that the easier part of the schedule is upon them and they seem to be winning, is it preferred they not win another game to preserve top 5-10 pick or perhaps they can win out and, if lucky, earn a 9-7 Wild Card seed?

Caldwell will likely stay on as the HC if they get 6+ wins...that honestly makes me prefer them losing more than winning. The fact they only now have realized a balanced offense can yield wins is too frustrating for me to want an offensive genius like Caldwell to remain. IDK...since the pink slips started flying, suddenly they are winning. Could be they needed the kick in the ass, could be the wrong people were in charge...

I just feel a fresh coaching staff is preferable at this time. I still equate Caldwell to Hoke to much to think he adds any value to the team.

Wins. It's always about wins. Hand down.

I'd rather have another seasons of Caldwell than lose out.

You lose a lot, and that losing culture seeps its way right back into the locker room. No thank you. Win, win a lot, win out... but it's all about wins.

Besides, if they win out, they actually still have a shot at the playoffs. If Caldwell were to take them to back to back playoff appearances, I say he's a pretty good coach after all.

Won't happen, but if they win out, it could.

Wins

You don't need the #1 draft spot to put together an o line, now we just need a GM that gets it, I know that might be asking for a lot though

I still prefer wins though no matter what

I say wins. I think Caldwell will be gone with a new GM in place. I am in a better mood if the Lions win. If we get a good GM, a non-top ten pick doesn't kill any chance of getting a good player.

Wins. We've had top 10 picks a lot in our lifetimes and it hasn't done anything in the grand scheme of things. You can find talent all over the place in any round. Win every game you can. And I haven't heard of a can't miss, consensus pick for this year either.

Draft is our super bowl. ...get used to it. The better the pick the better our super bowl should go.

Wins and drafting the right player is the correct answer...there's always difference makers in the first round even in the middle to latter part of it.

Teddy Bridgewater is still the best QB from last year's draft class and he was the final pick. The guy taken at the top of the 2nd round, Derek Carr has been the 2nd best.

Both of them have been better than Clowney, Watkins, and Ebron who were top 10.

I agree with you completely. Win games, and draft the right guys.

Whether Caldwell stays or not will be up the the new GM. I don't think wins will have anything to do with it. The Lions have been picking from the middle to the top of the draft every single year, hasn't helped yet. We have never evaluated players well and have taken way too many high risk players. Win games first then draft the right player that is available.

If franchise history is any indication, where they draft doesn't matter, so I guess it's winning. However, if a higher draft pick allows a new GM to get the perfect piece, I'm all for it. I don't really care either way, I'm already looking ahead to next season.

Actually, when we picked at the top of the draft recently we've got calvin, stafford and suh. Ebron was at 10 and was an obvious mistake that should have been donald, obj or oline help. So ya. ...picking at the top gets you good players. Stafford and calvin are on the downside of their careers. ...its time we get new good players.

How does where they draft not matter? Shall we compare high round picks to our brandon Pettigrews?

Take a look over the past.. let's say... 20 years worth of drafts. Take a look at who we picked in each first round, and then look at the guys picked in the next... let's say.. 8 picks behind us.

Where you draft doesn't matter anywhere near as much as HOW you draft, and the last few administrations in Lions Land have been terrible at that.

Yep, Suh, Stafford, Calvin, Ansah... all hits. Drafting high enough to land "can't miss prospects" helps, but we also easily could have had Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher who were "can't miss" prospects that missed badly.

The first round is important, but the rest of the draft matters even more. Top front offices can make moves around the board, stockpile picks, and find who they need later on (or more importantly, have a higher chance of finding who they need). Even if you hit on all your first round picks, it won't matter if the mid-round picks are constantly missed, and ~5 pick differences in those rounds aren't as important.

Our 3 win team obviously has holes. Until i can trust that the new regime can draft worth a shit. ....I'd rather take my chances with the potentially can't miss guys. At best we end up winning 7 games. ...which would have us drafting around 15ish....might get us a starting rt or cb based on projections. A top 7 pick gets us a top line lt and allows us to move reiff to rt...filing 2 holes. Or a top line dt like nkemdiche allowing us to move on from ngatas salary. Or a top line wr like Treadwell which would allow us to move on from Calvin's contact which we could use to sign like 3 starters. Much more impact than just plugging a hole mid round.

No guarantee a new GM gets rid of Caldwell. Martha likes him, making it a difficult proposition for a new GM, especially if it is a newbie GM.

I just don't trust Caldwell. Maybe if he wouldn't have quit in those earlier games I wouldn't be so against him.

Ask me that question most years and I'd say lose for a better draft.

But now? Just win. I'm so sick and tired of this team losing. I just want to cheer for a successful Detroit Lions team. I don't think that's so much to ask.

Our team couldn't score vs the Raiders thru 3 qtrs....they aren't going to be sucessful this year :D
