Making a case early for some playing time eh? Hopefully it continues...

Yeah, and as an added and albeit unexpected benefit, I have also noticed that far less Tigers fans are still posting in online forums while misspelling Ryan's surname as being Rayburn...haha.

Still...his defense, esp. IF when Jimmy scribbles Ryan in @ 2B this coming season is also of great importance as well, with Miggy and Prince now in the corners.

Interesting article about Raburn, statistics, randomness, and his relatively small sample sizes over his time in the majors:

Raburn and Sample Sizes

I miss seeing Ordonez name in the lineup, not that he did well here for the last few years, but just seeing his name in the lineup,I always thought there's a chance he could hit one out to win a game.with Raburn at this point, when I see his name in the lineup I think here's a easy out.hopefully he can change that around.

This is more a product of your prejudices than Raburn's ability. He has better career numbers than most of the starters including Young, Boesch and Peralta.

Prejudice or not, you have to see where he's coming from, Raburn is a feast or famine guy, when he's hot he's a beast, and when he's not he's not much better than Inge.

maybe in the 2nd half of the season.

Raburn has a ton of upside. Leyland keeps giving him a chance because he has the potential. Maybe he is finally putting it together. Im hoping for him to really step up.

Again, your prejudices. What you said is untrue.

Maybe. But also true of most average players, including Young, Peralta and Boesch among others.

Lets be clear his numbers are not better then JP's because he can't field a lick... The only and I mean the only reason RR batting improved last year is because ding-Bat jim leyland finally realized he is much better verses LHP and he had a monster second half because of that.if he hits from the beginning of the season then fine play him but please spare me how great he is.. In 56 games at second base he had 10 errors last year... TEN!!!! To go along with his other 7 errors in the outfields..

2011 verses RHP>.245/.283/.398

Raburn .268/.323/.456
JP .268/.330/..427.

Raburn's splits in 500 games and 1407 plate appearances
RHP .268/.311/420
LHP .270/340/.507

Jp's splits in 1126 and 4641 plate appearances.
RHP .271/.328/.420
LHP .259/336/.446

biggunsbob[/color]]Oh I am glad to see he is tearing it up in Spring training

Not to Raburn on anyone's parade, but he had a .960 OPS in ST last year, not saying that he will be as ice-cold @ the plate for much of the first half of this season, as he had been in '11, but he will still have to prove otherwise.

Also, despite AJax's supposedly absent leg-kick, and allegedly somewhat compacted swing, he has now Ked 8x in 20 ST ABs.

His numbers have nothing to do with fielding. And, Peralta is a poor fielder, too.

Raburn's career OPS+ is 106, Peralta's is 102. Not a huge difference, but Raburn has been a better hitter.

No he is not.. he was terrible verses RHP last year. JP has done it over a longer time... Give RR more AB's verses RHP and his numbers will go down... He helps this team is he hits verses LHP only.. Playing Shortstop is alot harder then playing 2nd which RR does very badly or in the outfield where he is only a tad above Young... RR is a glorified platoon player period... I hope he never bats again verses RHP.. The guy is a hack ay second base where he cost the tigers at least 1-4 games last year.... Oh that one would have made a difference in regards to home field... Only reason RR's numbers even came up last year because down the stretch he was only batting verses LHP.. Did i forget to mention April-June... Yeah wake him up sooner..

Peralta is more important, no doubt. You are kinda veering off from the original point, which was "Raburn has better numbers than Peralta". Which he does.

If you want to qualify it, feel free. I'm certainly not saying that Raburn is more important or more valuable or even a better player overall. But Raburn's career numbers are better.

I am saying they are not... JP has had way more at bats... His numbers are better. I can't stand Raburn unless they platoon him. he is a hack and cost to many games with his fielding...Including August 16th 2009 in a 3-2 loss verses KC a game he had 3 errors in including the one in the 1o inning. His defense is a huge liability

DH verses LHP and have him only see the field if there is a injury and I am fine with the scrub but with Young that is not going to happen.

106 to 102... You say... I will take that from JP over Raburn..Many more plate appearances and consistance

Jim, you completely missed the point Bob made about vs RHP. He's a 200 at bat guy, against LHP but he should stay away from RHP.

I'm not missing the point. I get that he hates Raburn and will ignore black and white factual numbers. Fine by me. I'm fully prepared for another year of irrational Raburn hate, may as well start it in March.
