Rams All In - now the OFFICIAL Super Bowl 56 Thread

If any Lions player ever deserved a ring, it was Barry.

Fuck Stafford. He quit on the team. He would not have been too old for the rebuild. He would have finished like Elway did with the Broncos. Instead he quit on the Lions.

Fuck him.

Lol yeah I doubt that. This roster was absolutely decimated. Also lions could have just kept him like Rodgers in GB. But they chose to start over due to his age and knowing the rebuild that was coming.

Now you're being illogical. Stafford will be 46-47 by the time we're ready to complete.... with the potential it could be 100.

I mean yeah probably. But just saying I think it was gonna take minimum two years to fix this mess. IF done right. Probably 3

Also just looked at broncos records during his years. Not comparable situations whatsoever.

Could take 2 more seasons or 3 for the Lions to be a true contender. So far so good from Holmes in drafts. Fa now he can shine with cap room finally

I think FA is a big test for Holmes. He said last year it was tough because that was something he didn't do a lot of in LA (Ray Agnew did). Coming in so late you only have so much time to evaluate your roster, the incoming FA's, and then he was dealing with little cap space because of all the dead money.

I have a lot of confidence in Holmes ability as a drafter, especially the collaborative approach they take with the coaching staff. There is still a big question mark on Holmes ability to identify key FA's and how they fit with this roster. Last year he hit on Charles Harris, Anzalone, Raymond Jamaal Williams, and to a lesser extent, Dean Marlowe. He whiffed on Williams, Perriman, Corn Elder, and Quinton Dunbar.

Nobody was really paid much money so the misses didn't have much lasting impact, but with more cap space this year they will.

Agree and Ray Agnew is on our staff to help too. FA was a mixed bag but we didn't have the cap room. Romeo Okwara a good resign but super unlucky with the achilles. Liked his draft and will love if Levi and Barnes take a big step

Holmes noted it is the "player acquisition phase" of the rebuild in his year end presser. So we are going to sign some people for sure. We'll see how big

My personal view on team building is there are three stages to a total rebuild (and that is what we were in after we traded Stafford).

Step 1: Clear out all the bad contracts and anyone who doesn?t want to be here or isn?t buying what the new staff is selling. This is critical as you this is the time where you are expected to struggle and can afford to field an economical roster. Identify the pieces you want to build around long term. Instill a culture of what is expected and what the coaching staff is all about. Don?t give meaningful playing time to older players (30+) if they are not expected to last through the rebuild, especially if it is at the expense of younger players.

Step 2: Acquire as much talent as possible. This is the time to add to your roster through free agency and the draft. Cap space should be fairly abundant at this point. Spend, but spend smart. Focus on players you know fit in to what we do and have a high chance of success. Do not spend big on potential. Take your shots at ?reclamation? projects if you want some upside as these guys don?t need a long term committment. If you don?t already have a QB you believe in, find one. This is critical to acheiving step 3. Draft captial is a premium at this point as you need to infuse your roster with as much young talent as possible.

Step 3: This is the final step. Once you reach step three, you are very calculated in your decisions to add in FA and the draft. You plug very specific holes and have an eye on the long term impacts of every move. At this stage you have to have a QB in place that you are going to build around. This is the stage you could see Holmes making moves similar to the Rams trading picks for established vets. You don?t spend big in FA on most occasions and typically focus on extending your own and letting the ones you don?t extend bring back comp picks. Draft capital, espeically mid round picks are how you build your long term depth and still have the cap space to retain your best players. At this point you don?t hope to be good, but it is a forgone conclusion. You aren?t hoping for 10 wins, your expecting to be competing for the Superbowl.

We are in step 2 and may be there for a couple years. As Holmes said this is the player acquistion phase. This is when you spend in free agency. I honestly wouldn?t be surprised to see them push money into the future if there are players they really think can help this franchise long term. That is why I am so convinced that Marcus Williams will be a Detroit Lions, as will Walker and Harris. They have identified Harris and Walker as guys they want back, and both have stated they want to come back. Neither should be overly expensive as they both have their concerns, but we know them best. I also think Campbell and Glenn know Williams and know he will come in and have success here. He won?t be as big a gamble as other big name FA?s because of this. I would put the odds of him signing here above 50%, and at 80% if I knew for sure New Orleans doesn?t somehow find a way to bring him back.

I also think they will identify a select few guys that they have a specific role in mind and go hard after them. I am not sure who those guys will be, but I could venture a guess on the roles they will be looking to fill. A backup TE makes sense to me in FA. Hockenson is your future, and Wright/Bryant are young guys with potential. You need a vet that can make an impact in the blocking game, but may have some receiving ability as well. Eric Saubert, Blake Bell, and Will Dissly are some cheap options who have received strong PFF grades for both their run and pass blocking. Honestly don?t know much about those guys, but look for them to find our new Josh Hill.

I think they will also look for value at WR. St Brown has made this less of a need to spend big, but even if we draft a guy and sign Reynolds, we need another guy back there. When I look at this roster, and what Goff has had success with previously, deep speed is the biggest glaring weakness. Guys like Tre?Quan Smith, and Deonte Harris have familiarity with Campbell. Harris is a RFA, but he likely gets the original round tender with New Orleans cap situation and he as undrafted. Would Campbell do that to New Orleans though? I also think guys like Isaiah McKenzie, Zay Jones, James Washington, and DJ Chark (if the money is right), could fit the bill.

I also think with Levi, McNeil and Penisini on the D-Line, we would like to add a vet to go with Brockers. This is probably where I would expect a second sizable contract handed out. Maybe not 10mil+ AAV, but in the 6-9mil range. My personal favorite target is Folorunso Fatukasi from the Jets, but guys like BJ Hill, Larry Ogunjobi, Joseph-Day, DJ Jones, Taven Bryan, etc are all options that wouldn?t break the bank, but are solid players.

Outside of those positions, I?m not sure what else we would add. LB?er is definitely on the list, but not sure if there is anyone worth spending up for. I would love Hassan Reddick, but not sure if hes a fit as primarily an edge guy. Either way everyone has a different preference when it comes to the players, but the positions I mentioned are the directions I expect them to do in FA. Spend up at safety, reliable player for the D-Line, speedster at WR, depth at TE, and maybe a cheap vet LB?er or CB.

3 new LBs and a new safety and I'm optimistic holmes can atleast identify where we need help talent wise. If he rolls with guys like JRM cause he has heart... he's going to lose me quick lol.

I personally have no issues with JRM. Do I think he should be our starting LB'er next year? No, but as solid depth and maybe the 1st guy off the bench I'd be for it.

I think at minimum we need one truly special LB'er. He may not be that in year 1, but we need someone who can be the leader of this defense for the next 10 years. After that if we re-sign JRM, and maybe a middling FA, I'd be good with those three and Barnes.

Barnes flashed some really high end traits this year. He made some really stupid mistakes as well. I personally think his upside is very high. The issue is, you never know if he can ever progress enough on the mental side of things to hit his potential. Jarrad Davis is a prime example of someone with a ton of tools, but no "toolbox".

want or don't want Stafford to win the SB?

Absolutely want. Guy was as classy as you want your franchise player to be for 12 years. Endured 3 rebuilds. Never said a bad word about the franchise. Great in the community. Had some pretty good moments on the field as well. Likely HOF?er.

I?ll be rooting for the Rams. I have all season.

The only reason i was rooting against him was for a better draft pick. Now that that doesnt matter i absolutely want him to win.

I don't really care either way. I've got nothing against him and rooted for him while he was here but he's not a Lion anymore. Like hughes said, early on in the playoffs I was rooting against for the sake of draft position but 31 vs. 32 isn't much of a difference.

I loathe Jalen Ramsey though, so that combined with loving Burrow-Chase highlights might sway me over to the Cinci side.

I am just not fan of the Rams coach. Was rooting for a higher pick but now that that is out the window I really don't care. Bengals have never won a super bowl so I guess I will root for that.

I like Burrow. I have never cared for Matt. His wife is a Karen...a hot Karen, but a Karen nonetheless. Never liked the Rams.

I'm rooting for the Bengals but I'm 90% sure the Rams will win.

Let us know when you?ve made your final decision.

I?m rooting for stafford to win for multiple reasons, the biggest being I?d much prefer to see a guy that has suffered much pain finally get some redemption over a guy that?s only been in the league for two years. That and he?s a class act and 3?just been exposed to too many bengals fans this week with their who dey! Crap feeling all smug and mighty. And I don?t like smugness
