Ok, who's our all-time right handed pitcher?

Here are the other board picks...

Catcher- Pudge
Third base- George Kell
RF- Al Kaline
CF- Ty Cobb
LF- Willie Horton
LHP- Hal Newhouser
Closer- Willie Hernandez

I went with Verlander on what I think the rest of his career will be. If I went on a favorite player, it would be Jack.

And if Walt Terrell is on this list, why no Jose Lima?

cuz he won games with Detroit...

IMO, Had the Tigs not traded Bunning, this would not be a contest.

I voted for JV because Morris says he has better stuff than he does. But Morris was the ultimate clutch guy.

Verlander 6....Everyone else 3

Wonder if he would have gotten this much love in March?

I picked McLain not because I think he was better then Verlander, but because of what he did in '68, microscopic ERA, absolute beast, 4 man rotation.

Guys like Verlander, Sabathia, and Hernandez are great, but you have to wonder how they would do in a 4 man rotation pitching the kind of innings guys like McLain and Lolich did.

I think they'd be fine at it if they got used to it. Buts its 5 man rotations for awhile.

I agree to a large degree with this Ty.
Bunning was a top 3 AL pitcher in his time with the Tigers.
He was a league leader in strikeouts, era, and won over another 100 games in the National League. He had a great fastball, great slider, good curve and wasn't afraid to brush batters back and pitch inside. His follow through was alot like Bob Gibson's falling off to his left side.
Maybe, he would have passed Tigers all-time wins leader Hooks Dauss' 223 wins with the Tigers from 1912-1926, if he had stayed his whole career with them.

For me right now it is Jack Morris, then Bunning/McLain, Tommy Bridges.
Verlander if he stays a Tiger for another 5 seasons will be their All-Time Best, if he isn't right now, as he is in some Tigers' fans minds.
A whole career of say 18 to 20 years as a Tigers' pitcher, or if he moves on in FA, and still has a career of that length will put Verlander in the elite pitcher status for baseball discussions as an all-time great. jmo.

JV up 9-5 on Jack Morris. Denny McLain with 2 votes.

The fact that Hal Newhouser is not on this list makes it and you a complete fuckin joke, Cobb.
I mean, he's only in the Hall of Fame.....but probably couldn't compete with Walt Terrell, Bill Gullickson and Milt Wilcox.

My apologies.....I am the joke.

I'm looking forward to first base...curious to see if people will vote Miggy over Greenberg

Bump. Voting closes tonight. I'll declare JV winner tomorrow (unless he's overtaken).

Comparing players across several eras is tough, but if you're going to try, ops+ is probably the best indicator. There's really not much difference between the two based on that.
