Rockies vs Tigers, Game thread June 17

Minor league stats aren't all that all the time. Or else the strikeout king Matt Young would still be here. Sometimes you never know.

Maybe for guys who did good in minor leagues but how many bad minor leaguers, who have been there for 6 years ever amounted to a good player? Especially one that has no power.

Which brings me to this, how many outfielders with no power last long?

Berry won't last long. He's 27, gonna be 28 before next season. His minor league numbers were putrid and his stats are literally skewed by 3 good games. He's a clone of Nyjer Morgan (and I'm being nice). He has MAYBE 5 more years as a serviceable back up outfielder. I hope he proves me wrong but I'm not getting my hopes up for a 27 year old who wasn't even a good "prospect".

For a team that everyone from the front office to management had admitted is built to "win now," 5 good years is all they need out of him...

I'd trade him before the wheels fall off.

You want to trade everyone.

If he has no value, because as you say he's a 27 year old non-prospect, we would not get anything good for him, might as well burn that candle till the wick runs out.

For some reason this season, all over MLB, there are BB and DY playing throughout the land.

Basically, guys sucking.

if Berry isn't that good and "don't expect this to last", and he's a 4th outfielder, and nobody wanted him all those years because of bad hitting stats, then what are you going to get for him in a trade??

As a bench guy...how about Juan Pierre? How long has he lasted?

Speed, good D, good .OBP will earn him a roster spot.

110 pitches, 12K's, if that's the end of Max's day, it's a gem.

good question but maybe someone bites? He's cheap and would be a good spot starter or speed guy for a team looking to unload some salary?

Impressive start from Max. If we can get him, JV, and Fister rolling at the same time maybe we can finally string more than two wins together at a time...

He actually fits our needs pretty well, so why trade him just to help someone unload salary?

When you have guys like Raburn, Inge, BB and DY and Matt Young - Berry has been a gem.

so the guy you list is a guy who's been around to 6 teams? Proved my point that he won't be here long.

Juan Pierre broke in the majors much earlier too. In the majors within 2 years of being drafted so he had hitting talent from the get go..

Besides unloading salary, you pretty much described the needs of the Tigers.

6 teams, but he's always had a job.

You said OF's with no power don't last long, maybe not with the same team, but on a MLB roster, yes.

Max Scherzer's 6 games with 9 or more strikeouts are the most by a Tigers pitcher in the team's first 66 games since Hal Newhouser also posted 6 in 1946.

but I also said one that wasn't a good prospect to begin with and been in the minor leagues doing nothing for 6 years. Pierre was special to begin with....Berry is going to be 28 at the beginning of next year. If Pierre was even so special, why didn't anybody keep him around longer?
