Ross' Punt Return

all this should be moot because if you watch the replay closely his toes hit the end zone prior to him establishing position and touching the ball.....should have been whistled dead and a touchback.

OPI on Ebron, DPI on Mathis.

Cards held our Dline more than one time.

ill never understand offensive pass interference when the defense is trying to jam you. I understand youre not supposed to be able to push off but that's EXACTLY what the defense is doing when they try to jam you. Why are they allowed to push and hold you up but you cant push them? Offensive PI should never be called when they are jamming you....ever.

Bottom line is the offense couldn't move the ball yet again. Mid-field and it just means maybe they hit a FG or give the ball back on downs..

Another horrible call against us. Refs made me sick this game..

Agree 100%

And to add to that......Ebron barely pushed him. There is that much "arm battling" in just about every play.....and it is rarely called.....and certainly not AS the WR is being jammed.

Baffling.

That's what i saw at the stadium, thought they would rule touchback

All I can say is I watched the game, and the replays, and the simple truth is Arizona didn't need the refs help to beat us up on Sunday, but they sure got it.

I saw at least 8 holds by the Cards O-Line before the first penalty was called against them. They got handed 49 yards on the punt. I could go on.. and I won't because it's not worth it, but this was one of the worst officiated games I have ever watched.

Bring back the replacement refs! I think they are working at Foot Locker now.

looks like if he doesn't throw it back into the field of play, his momentum would take him into the end zone for a touchback. it also looks as if his foot was on the goal line before he had "possession" to begin with.

*EDIT*

i didn't even see this, but just reread the thread now and realized that other people saw the same thing now... lol

Yeah so we start at the 20 in worst case scenario. But somehow we start at the 1, drive 52 yards then punt.

they say he repositioned himself. I didn't think you can do that. I thought someone else had to touch it.

OPI appears to be a point of emphasis this year. I've seen brutal calls all year in many games.

PI in general bothers me on a lot of calls. I still think one of thae most effective passes would be to under throw your WR on a deep route. If the DB is trailing just throw short and have WR stop, DB will run into WR and 90% of time will be called for DPI.

Most of the calls for interference are bullshit. But the Lions still can't get into the end zone. That's on them, not the refs.

Pass interference is such a difficult play to call. I know they are trying to take the subjectivity away from the calls to make it easier for the referees but I think they should make it a 100% subjective call. Kind of like a foul in basketball...if they are both kind of fighting for position or the ball let it fly...if the defender is all over the WR throw the flag...if the WR pushes the defender away call OPI. If the ball is uncatchable don't make it a spot foul but 10 yards and a first down.

agree. i'd like to add that if the ball is thrown to the right side of the field, there should NEVER be a flag thrown for PI or Def Holding, or OPI on the left side of the field. i've seen that a few times and it boggles my mind how that's even relevant to the play.

really Is sad that so many calls are being called wrong even after review....and this is AFTER they installed an entire off site office to look at it in new York. What a waste of money....

not true...if Calvin is being held and Stafford is forced to throw it to the other side but it is incomplete there should be a flag. Of course that is not a good example because Stafford would just force the ball to CJ

How about this...if Jordy Nelson is being held and AR throws it to Cobb and it is incomplete a flag should be thrown because AR could have had the opportunity to throw it to Nelson. Of course AR would probably complete the pass to Cobb.

How about this...well, you get my point

true, but i was meaning more of when the ball is already in the air and the penalty occurs on the opposite side of the field. very similar thing if the OL gets flagged for holding after a pass was already completed 20 yards downfield.

It should have been our ball where Ross was tackled. The punt coverage dude re-established himself in the field of play after putting his foot on the goal line. But he certainly never had "possession" of that kick. He had 2 hands on the ball for maybe half a second and then had to throw it back into play because he would have fell in the end zone. He is basically a receiver at that point so why is that considered possession but when a wide receiver catches the ball he has to hold on to it until he's on the bus ride home or it's considered a drop? The NFL makes no sense.

Plus I will guarantee that is the first time in the nfl they called it that way. Any time a player throws the ball backwards on a punt they mark it down wherever the next guy recovered it...every single time. The NFL got this call wrong a bunch of times. I could even see if they screwed up and said the Lions get the ball at the 20...that's what I thought Arizona was actually challenging. But no way on earth we should have started at the 1. That wasn't possession or anything that even looked like possession.
