Get StartedI'm sorry, but Sanchez is our 4th starter and I really don't buy that he is that good. That article hit it on the head...he hasn't proven enough yet. Quite honestly, I like Smyly better than Sanchez straight up. Let's move on and address another need....like the bullpen.
The more things I read about this situation, the more I say FUCK HIM! Twelve million dollars a year for a guy that is probably not even worth twelve million a year is insulting? What's next, "14 million per season is not enough to feed my family!?" Look elsewhere.

Just heard DD on MLB on XM and he didn't seem to be big on resigning Sanchez. He said we'd be comfortable with our current rotation if we couldn't come to terms with Sanchez, and while he conceded that Sanchez would be an upgrade, he was far from positive sounding there. He also talked about Porcello and Rondon and seemed REALLY high on Rondon's skill set and mental make up. He talked about Rick's up and down year, but mentioned his age and said he expected he'd improve and become more steady this year. He also was very focused on the leadership that VMart and Hunter are going to provide.
He's always a close to the vest guy, but you could tell who he was and wasn't high on based on his tone and points of focus in the interview. I definitely got the vibe that he was trying to put distance there with Sanchez and his agent. That might be to drive the price down, but he definitely wasn't trying hard to talk Sanchez up or saying that we want or need him back. I found it to be pretty telling how he answered the question and the things he didn't say in his response.Which tells us absolutely nothing.
Which implies absolutely nothing.
Which frankly, means absolutely nothing.

I also found it telling about how much he went on about Rondon. He talked a lot about having comfort with his approach and mental makeup, then would reel it back a little by saying he wasn't anointing Rondon as he closer yet, then go back to talking about his comfort level, his stuff, and how he's pitching at a high level in Venezuela right now.
On Porcello, I got the vibe that he was fine with Rick if we didn't find anything better, but that that he was still investigating his rotation options. He was realistic about Porcello's disappointing progress at times, then would counter that with the age and number of wins he's got.
McCarthy signed with the DBacks. our options continue to dwindle.
The rest of the off-season is hinging on Sanchez. He is going to get over-paid....
Greinke supposedly getting 24 mil+ per year! WOW, 2nd highest paid pitcher and never even won 20 games, incredible. Just think what Verlander's extension will look like or he can hold the Tigers hostage and get paid even more.
