Scalia just died

the GOP controls the Senate, and they're the ones who approve Supreme Court appointments.

I've read a couple similar articles along those lines, that if they hold up this appointment for the entire year, it will hurt them in November.

Who knows? I'm sure they will attempt to paint whoever he appoints as a "dangerous liberal" in order to justify their actions. For the percentage of "Dumbass Americans" out there, i.e. Spartanracist & his ilk, it won't matter; Obama is by definition a radical socialist islamofascist, so whoever he appoints will be one too, by extension. No need to even think about it!

It probably will hurt them at the polls, especially assuming he'll appoint someone from among the ranks of Federal appellate court judges, all of whom have been appointed and confirmed before, vetted by our right-of-center federal government, and with a decade plus of jurisprudence under their belt, allowing people capable of thinking, i.e. not Spartanracist and his ilk, to review their cases and opinions and decide for themselves if they are a dangerous liberal islamofascist, or whatever.

I was happy to hear Dems start playing the obstructionist card early on. The GOP will be taking a major political risk if they attempt to block anyone likely to be an appointment.

My understanding is that Scalia was personable and well liked by people who knew him, especially his fellow Supremes, regardless of ideology (which we know the Supremes aren't supposed to be ideological - ha!).

RIP Neno.

Donald Trump can not run out of doing shit that disgusts me.

Hearing him imply that Chief Justice Roberts was faulty in not finding the Affordable Care Act AKA Obamacare - hey the Affordable Care Act is phonetically the same as AKA - what a coinkidink!!! -- just because the president who appointed Roberts probably wouldn't have been in favor of is disgusting.

It isn't Roberts's job to legislate from the bench - it's Robert's job, along with his fellow Supremes, to rule whether laws and shit are in violation of the Constitution, or not.

There is a lot of shit I don't like about Obamacare; there is some shit I do like about it - but if Roberts thinks that the ACA is the stupidest, dumbest, worst piece of shit that ever came down the line - yet if it isn't in violation of the Constitution - it's not Roberts's job to rule against it, just because he doesn't like it.

I don't personally believe there is any conspiracy behind Scalias death and don't agree with all of the comments in the video by Alex Jones. He was 79 and overweight jones...I however also believe it's perfectly fine to ask questions and ponder all possilties, whether it be a world event or discoveries in the universe and that people are entitled to thier opinions, including Alex Jones, even if conterversal, as we all are. IMO to say he deserves to be offed Bob,....is disappointing. I support the first amendment and don't beleive people deserve to be off'd for thier opinions right or wrong.

My problem with him is that he basically invented this theory from nothing. It's fine to question things, but to accuse anybody of conspiracy and murder in such a public way requires some sort of proof.

I honestly couldn't tell you, I don't keep up with Circuit Court appointments. But I've seen several lists of potential nominees floating out there already.

of the "shortlists" I've read, the name Sri Srinivasan stands out, mostly because in 2013, the Senate confirmed his appointment to the DC circuit by a vote of 97-0.

that would be a clear "fuck you, let's see you weasel out of this one" to senate republitards.

in an odd coincidence, a recent anniversary of sorts related to Republitards, Texas, and hunting also happened: ten year anniversary of Dick Cheney shooting that other Republitard in the face while quail hunting (possibly while drunk, and by all accounts negligent) & never apologizing. although the guy who was shot apologized to Dick Cheney for getting shot by him. what a bunch of assholes!

Yeah I've seen his name a few times as well. He's also in his 40's(!).

In my opinion it's better to replace a conservative with a conservative. Having too many that go one way or the other is not good.

I don't remember anymore exactly what the argument was (sorry), but in Bush v. Gore, I remember my interpretation was that if you believed the Constitution was a living, breathing document requiring updated interpretation, you'd go with Bush. If you thought it was a rigid documents to be interpreted as literally as possible according to the letter of the law, you'd go with Gore. I thought at least half of the justices followed the party of the Presidents that put them in office and not the ideological leanings they were known for.

special place as in like right up there with Madeleine and women who don't support Hillary? LOL. j/k.. thanks your opinion

He's sometimes too quick to jump to conspiracy conclusion, I get what Monster is saying and don't disagree with Monsters comments. I was a bit disappointed to see Jones jump to that so quickly in that video as believe it or not he hasn't been nearly as bad with that in the past year or so than he has been in the past. Anyway I don't think he's wrong about everything and don't throw it all out with the bathwater and personally have never felt incited to hate by anything he says. Do you base that opinion on personal listening experience just what others have said? Some of his reporters he's got working for him deserve a Pulitzer prize for some of the work they've done IMO.

Roberts voted in the interests of Big Business; I'm not sure it's actually counter to the wishes of the President who appointed him.

Scalia definitely put his "strict textualist" philosophy aside for that one.

The emergence of conspiracy theories should hardly be a surprise. Much better way for someone to express the questions than did jones IMO

http://youtu.be/08CevpXDVlA

yeah, real intelligent... a fucking overweight, 79-year-old smoker dies of a heart attack and some peoples' first thoughts are "IT'S A CONSPIRACY."

A conspiracy... so Obama can have his last Supreme Court pick - who will likely have to be right-of-center just to have a shot at being confirmed - tied up indefinitely by Senate Republicans?

Wow... whoever was behind this web of intrigue didn't think it all the way through apparently.
