I understand what you're saying.....but ripping on a team or GM for signing a guy with world class speed to a NO GUARANTEE practice squad contract that costs the team NOTHING is pretty petty and stupid.

Every team does it.

Of course in the grand scheme of things it cost them nothing. But the very minute they did it I knew it was stupid. A 5'8", 159 lb kid that wasn't successful at a D3 school was thought of as an NFL prospect? It was stupid and I was right.

You being right or not is irrelevant. That's a completely different subject. The point was this was a meaningless move by a team/GM kicking the tires on a guy with some tangibles. There are hundreds of players on practice squads and futures contracts that will never play an NFL down.

But for whatever reason, you cant seem to let this one go.

It was a meaningless move because everyone knew it would fail. It was just another stupid move by the Lions. I only brought it up because I was talking about what I thought they should do with a practice squad spot vs. what they have done in the past.

A MUCH BETTER argument would be if you could actually name someone. Name a guy that was a FA at the time that they could have brought in instead of Isles?

However, it is my right on a message board to rip them for doing something that I think is stupid. We are all on here just giving our opinons. Why? Not sure that's why they created the practice squad..if you have a difficult time listening to other people's opinions maybe you should move along, it's obvious sports forums aren't your thing..

You can say that its stupid to bring in guys that have a certain ability that makes them different than other guys in the league. Signing Isles cost nothing and didn't detract from bringing in other guys. You pick up guys that have a certain talent that can help the team. Someone like Kickalicious could have possibly been an upgrade over Akers but he never got a real shot because they both performed and we chose to go with an experienced player but Akers sucked. It doesn't hurt the team to try and find a diamond in the rough.

If you want to be critical on Mayhew thats fine because he has overlooked some major holes in the past. Such as not getting a fill in for Best or not bringing in enough guys to fill out the wr core after Burleson and Broyles went down. But he also brought in Ross who ended up making some plays on offense and being a threat as a ST player. Mayhew isn't perfect because no GM is but I think he has done a decent job building a competitive team since before he was promoted we had the most pathetic team in history. It takes time to build depth and have good players waiting behind other good players. I think he has done more to help the team rather than set it back. Last season rests on the coaches squarely. He has gotten talented players in every draft and last years draft and UDFA class was astoundingly talented. Another draft like that and this team could be perennial contenders. There are pieces here that show he knows what he is doing but it was never going to be a quick fix.
