SI ranks all 32 starting QB's. Stafford ranked.......

I say he's good or outstanding. He plays good and outstanding based on his circumstances. I'm not comparing him to anyone. His level of play is good.

It's about level of play given his set of circumstances. QB is to complex to compare to others.

Ints and comp % are team stats. And even TDs is based on circumstances. Maybe you run it more in the redzone. Maybe your Oline doesn't block and you miss some TD opps. Maybe your weapons drop 3 TDs against the Pats.

What are you basing outstanding on? For something to be outstanding there needs to be a baseline on what average is. Otherwise everything/everyone could be outstanding, which defeats the purpose of the word outstanding.
No matter what, you are comparing him to something for him to be outstanding or even good.

It's based on game tape and assessing if Stafford is doing his job. If you think, based on his situation, he is getting the job done, he can be outstanding. New system, bad protection, 13 missed FGs, and run game and still leads 71 scoring drives. Stafford was outstanding. 11 wins, plenty of big plays that won games.

Every QB has a different set of circumstance. Heck you could play one team and they could be missing players and the same team later and they could have better players back. 2013 Rodgers with Nelson at Vikings without Harrison Smith vs 2013 Stafford with no Calvin vs Vikings with Harrison Smith. Big difference.

Stafford has had the good numbers. 2011 and 2013 especially. Stafford has had the wins (2014). He should have the proper support in 2015 with the Oline, run game and health upgrades we should get. Plus year 2 in the system.

Stafford could play exactly the same in 2015 as he did in 2013/2014 and have 5,000 yards and 35 TDs with mid 60%. QB is so complex and it's a team sport. You shouldn't waste your time comparing to other QBS in very different situations.

Mayhew loves the guy. Mayhew is an NFL GM who knows how to spot talent and build a team. Mayhew knows him better than any other GM in the league. Stafford will be here for a long time and that is a great thing.

So in your mind what is the QBs job? On what % of plays should he make the correct Read? What % of bad throws is an acceptable amount?

Now logically since QB is such a team position, wouldn't it make sense to put money in every other position and just rotate the QB in and out on Rookie contracts. Since it is impossible to judge if Stafford would do better then DanO or Moore in the 2015 season, the cheapest option would be the best.

Brewer, it's not worth it man. Just ignore him. I also get caught up in this crap too, but it's all a troll job. I know it deep down but it's something to do during work.

Not worth your time and effort.

Correct read is high. Stafford is very cerebral. The bar was lower with a new offense in 2014. Higher in 2015. Comp % is based on many factors out of Stafford's control.

QB is important. But so is the team. You still need a good one in your system. And Stafford is a good one in our system even with the injury deficiencies and poor run game.

Stafford makes enough plays to win us a championship with an average defense. He's outstanding.

It's not a troll job. I vehemently disagree with most of what you people say. I have my facts and evidence, you have your gut feelings on Stafford and stats out of context.

maybe in the future...certainly not in the past. He had a great defense last year and couldn't do it.

Yeah, that defense was awesome against Dallas in the playoffs

Dallas averaged twice as many rushing yards per game for the season as they managed against our defense. They averaged 5 more points per game than they scored against us. Tony Romo had the highest completion %, highest yards per attempt, highest passer rating, and highest QBR of anyone in the regular season (also 4th in TDs despite being 23rd in passes thrown). Dallas was 7th in total offense and 5th in points.

Our defense was predicated on stopping the run, which it did. Our defense even held Dallas to no points when Stafford threw an interception in our own red zone. Our defense didn't fumble the ball away to end the game, didn't nearly fumble it away a minute earlier but lucked out just to keep possession.

Our defense was good in that game, good enough to win having stymied an elite offense for the entire first half and still holding it below its averages for the game. The difference in the game was Dallas scored 7 in the first half, while Detroit scored 3 in the second half. Of those two things, the former is considerably more impressive defensively.

Awesome!!! They played good in spurts...lol. Romo still killed us, Williams torched us, Murray didn't do much but still got in the endzone, Witten came up huge at key times, Beasley even played well against us i think lol. They gave up 24 points! Not good enough...sorry. But blame it all on the QB lol. Too easy...
Everybody gets the blame. Offense played good in spurts and so did the defense. TEAM effort. One day you schmucks will understand this.

It was a team effort that lost that game. Defense was good, but not as good as they were during the regular season.

Bottom line is Stafford got better protection (compared to Romo), had better run support (Compared to Romo), and had all his weapons were healthy. Yet Romo still played better than he did.

QB play was not good enough to win the playoff game. Playoffs is where you need greatness, we did not get that. He takes a chunk of the blame.

If we're just looking at that specific game......I think Stafford out played Romo overall. Romo's stats were pretty heavily weighted on the Cowboys one big play to Williams before the half. Other than that, he was average.

My issue with that game is with BOTH coordinators. Austin OWNED the Cowboys in the first half. They were completely confused as to which direction the blitz was coming from......couldn't run the ball.....and were as out of sync as they could have possibly been. For some reason, we did NONE of that in the 2nd half. VERY little blitzing or even mixing up looks. Romo was able to find a rhythm and complete some short throws for 1st downs. I have no idea why Austin went soft......but he did.

Same with Lombardi. Terrible play calling in the 2nd half. WAY. TOO. CONSERVATIVE. Ineffective screen passes. No run game. 20 carries for 63 yds if you take out Bush's "throwback to USC days" TD run. No reason to play like that when you are only up 10 with an entire half to go ON THE ROAD. Oh, and don't get me started as to why you run that route with Pettigrew and not Ebron. Hate on Ebron all you want for the year he had, but you can't make plays when you aren't called upon to do so. Ebron should have run that route.....not Pettidrop Fumblegrew.

It's the NFL. You have to play to win. Playing not to lose will do just that. I think that 76 yd TD just before half scared both Austin and Lombardi to the point that they went too far the other way with their play calling.

Just my $.02. But to relate this to the topic at hand. I saw NOTHING in that game where Romo "outplayed" Stafford. Both QB's played slightly above average....IMO. Dallas got a few breaks and made plays offensively when they needed to. The Lions did not. So yes, some of that falls on Stafford. But anyone blaming that loss on #9 either didn't watch the game or doesn't know football.

Same could be said for Stafford's 51 yarder to Tate. If you take out Murray's best run you get bad stats too (57 Yards on 18 carries).

Neither QB was great, but I think Romo was better. Stafford just seemed to be the guy with no awareness.
For example: 1st play of the second half on the Tip INT, Stafford had no clue. Romo pulled down the ball a number a times before he threw it when he saw the D-line going up for a tip.
Another example: Sack/fumble at the end of the game. There was only a bit a pressure coming from one guy, Stafford almost walks right into him, completely unaware of his blind side. He had daylight for days to the right, but he backs right into the one defender that could make a play. Romo was dancing around, avoiding defenders all day.

The 76 yarder to Williams had a bigger impact on Romo's numbers than the 51 yarder to Tate did. But I get your point.

You need to watch that game again......or at least some highlights. The tip ball INT had NOTHING to do with awareness. The guy got his hand up. Good play. Your QB shouldn't be looking at the hand placement of the D-Line when he throws the ball downfield.

Also......watch the TD to Tate again. Stafford avoids a blitzer who gets by Raiola (shocking!!) steps up and throws a good ball to Tate. Without seeing that and stepping up....Stafford gets sacked on that play.

Again....to each his own on whether you like Stafford or not......but you guys kill him for every tiny mistake. He makes more plays than this board gives him credit for. He isn't Rodgers.....but he is a good QB.

Stafford played relatively well in the Dallas game, but that's what separates him from the best of the best. Those are the games where he needs to really carry that team when the offense is sputtering. Go over to Lombardi and tell him that the playcalling is shit and something needs to change. Maybe he did, I'm not sure, but they went from moving the ball very well in the first half to whatever happened in the 2nd.

Scoring only three points in an entire half of football won't get it done, especially when the defense held Dallas to 7 points until basically the end of the third quarter.

I agree 100% with this post.

I'm not saying Stafford played any kind of amazing game or anything......but there were a number of factors that accounted for that loss. Stafford is part of that too, of course.

Sam Martin 13 yard punt.
PI non call
Big play to Williams covered by Vaughn
Conservative play calling from both coordinators in the 2nd half.
Very offensive offensive line play in the last series.....and most of the game.
.......ect.

It certainly was not JUST #9. That's my point.

The play to Tate was nice. Oline did a decent job picking up the Blitz. It's not like the guy came up the middle on Raiola, Raiola bounced outside to get a piece of the defender. Stafford did his job in stepping up and making a good throw.

Watch the final play again. Tell me he had any sort of awareness on that play.

There was enough blame to go around on this loss. I'm not saying he is never making plays. He is just average at best QB. Maybe he didn't lose us the game, but he sure as heck didn't win it for us. You can't have your QB being a non-factor in a playoff game. It was just another blah Stafford performance.

As much as we like to pretend this is a team game and everyone contributes to a win or loss, there are certainly positions that have more expected of them and has a greater impact on the end result. QB is at the top of that list.
